Weston Town Center is hosting its Halloween Spooktacular from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.

The event will feature a night of trick-or-treating and a costume contest. Registration starts at 5:30 p.m. for ages 3-14. There will also be a DJ, special character appearances, face painting, a bounce house and more.

The 6th Annual Weston Foreign Film Series presents "Queen to Play" at 5 and 7:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at the Weston 8 Cinema, 1338 SW 160th Ave. in Sunrise.

The series is put on by the Arts Council of Greater Weston, in cooperation with the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival.

Cost is $7 per film (at the door) or $30 for the series of five. Cleveland Clinic Florida, 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd. in Weston, is now offering new options for patients seeking treatment for common and acute medical conditions.

In addition to appointments during regular business hours, patients can now see Cleveland Clinic physicians from 5-10 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Weston campus.

Patients 14 and older can be seen for conditions including cold and flu symptoms, small cuts and sprains, infections of the ear and throat, sinus infections, urinary tract infections and upper respiratory tract infections.

Weston is offering AARP’s 55 Alive/Mature Driving Program for free to veterans from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The course is designed especially for motorists age 50 and older dealing. A reduction in automobile insurance premiums is allowed to people 55 and older by most insurance companies when the course is completed and the driver has a safe driving record. Registration is required.

Those interested in attending the class are asked to bring proof of veteran status. Cost is $12 for AARP members and $14 for nonmembers. Residents should bring their AARP card if they have one and a bagged lunch.

The Broward League of Cities is accepting applications for its annual Scholarship for Government Studies.

Offered to four Broward County high school seniors attending public or charter schools, the $1,000 scholarships provide financial support to students who plan to attend a college or university to pursue a major in public administration, political science or other government-related field.

Applicants must demonstrate strong communication and leadership skills. The application must include an essay, a personal statement, two letters of recommendation and a transcript. Detailed instructions can be found at www.browardleague.org.

Applications are due by Feb. 10. To be considered, applicants must be available on the date scheduled for interviews, tentatively set for March 31, 2012.

Weston will present a free screening of "Tangled" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Event Stage in Weston Regional Park, at 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The movie is the next in the Moonlight Movies in the Park series.

The magically long-haired Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but now that a runaway thief has stumbled upon her, she is about to discover the world for the first time, and who she really is.

Broward Health Weston, 2300 N. Commerce Parkway, welcomes the AmeriBreast blow-up exhibit from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.

Billed as the world’s only walk-through tour of the human breasts, this colorful interactive exhibit focuses on breast cancer prevention and education. The inflatable display inside features large representations of non-cancerous lumps, inflammatory breast cancer stages, milk ducts, blood vessels and lymph nodes.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Broward Health is hosting its third annual Mammo-Palooza with its goal to provide 1300 mammograms during the week of Oct. 10-15. Broward Health Weston has set a goal of providing 250 mammograms during that period.

Mammograms will be offered 7 a.m.-7 p.m. through Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. Walk-ins are welcome, or residents can schedule a mammogram by calling 954-759-7500. Most insurances are accepted, and for anyone without insurance, the cost is $99, cash or credit.

Weston and the Broward Sheriff's Office are sponsoring a free Halloween Safety Expo from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28 at Tequesta Trace Park, 600 Indian Trace in Weston.

The trick-or-treating event will feature music, bounce houses, kid-oriented activities and more. Safety vehicles, including helicopters, fire engines and SWAT units, will be on hand. There also will be face stamping, a teddy bear clinic, safety prize wheel, arts and crafts, character appearances and more.

Residents are asked to wear their cutest or spookiest costume.

Commissioner Mercedes Henriksson presents Dr. Maria Lina Diaz the city proclamation declaring September Women in Medicine Month.

In celebration of Women in Medicine Month, the Women’s Professional Staff Association at Cleveland Clinic Florida honored several women for their achievements and contributions to the field.

Award recipients included Physician of the Year Maria Lina Diaz, Physician of Achievement Mariana Berho, Physician of Vision Cassann Blake, and Circle of Honor recipient Jennifer McGreevy.

Keynote speaker Rochele Rosian, a staff physician with Cleveland Clinic in Ohio and co-president of the WPSA in Cleveland, spoke to the group on "The Making of Women Leaders." Weston City Commissioner Mercedes Henriksson read a proclamation from Mayor Eric Hersh declaring September Women in Medicine Month and thanking the WPSA for its contributions to the community.

The WPSA also awarded two $500 research grants to Dorita Brook Jones, a fellow in the neurology program, and Carey Gross, a fellow in the urogynecology program.

Weston has partnered with the Rotary Club of Weston for the second year of its fitness and health initiative, Get Fit Weston.

Residents can participate in up to 38 workout programs each week at 10 different fitness partners in Weston. The program runs from Oct. 11-Dec. 10. Cost is $20 or free if you register for the Run for Tomorrow 5K or half marathon set for Dec. 11.

Elementary school-age children can take part in the Mayor's Get Fit Challenge Cup 1-mile walk happening on the same day. The school with the most participants will receive a check for $500.

The Broward League of Cities is accepting applications from high school juniors who plan to pursue a career in public administration, political science or other government-related fields, for its Student Ambassador program.

The opportunity is open to students who are Broward County residents and attend a Broward public or charter school. Four students will be provided introductions into the world of public service for a two-year term, during which they attend general membership meetings, board of directors meetings and other functions.

Students have the chance to meet with elected officials and learn the intricacies of governing at the municipal level.
