They hope to deliver at least 1,000 DVDs from all genres for the men and women in uniform to watch during their down time. The club has delivered nearly 10,000 books during Fleet Week since the program’s inception.

They are also looking for other items, including dental floss, paperback books, AA batteries, chicken, tuna or ham with crackers, ground coffee, magazines and CDs. The community is invited to help by dropping off donations to the school's administrative office, 5451 S. Flamingo Road.

Southwest Ranches looking to certify town as Community Wildlife Habitat

nwf.jpg

Southwest Ranches is organizing an effort to certify the town as a Community Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation and the NatureScape Broward program.

This will provide habitat for wildlife throughout the community on school grounds, in public areas such as parks, and community gardens, places of worship, businesses and backyards. Southwest Ranches needs 75 properties to become certified.

Residents can participate by filling out an application describing how their properties provide the four basic elements that all wildlife need: food, water, cover and places to raise young. A $20 application fee completes the certification process.

Southwest Ranches Equestrian Park, Rolling Oaks Park and Trailside Park Properties are already certified, and applications for other town parks will soon be submitted.

For more information, contact December Lauretano-Haines at 954-343-7452 or dlauretano@southwestranches.org.
