Imagine Charter School of Weston has announced the opening of Imagine Middle School West for the 2012-2013 school year.

During the initial academic year, the middle school will be located on the elementary school campus, at 2500 Glades Circle.

The Cypress Bay High School boys' and girls' soccer teams will be recognized at the 7 p.m. Monday, April 2 City Commission meeting at Weston City Hall, 17200 Royal Palm Blvd.

The boys' team took home the state championship in Tampa in February with a victory over Jacksonville-Mandarin in the Class 5A championship game at the University of South Florida.

This is the second consecutive state championship for the Lightning, who are considered the nation’s top-ranked team with an undefeated 23-0-2 record. On April 13, ESPN will present the team with the national championship trophy. The team has remained atop ESPN’s Fab50 power rankings.

The girls' team won over the Lords Academy to win the regional championship.

The Weston Family Fun Ride & Bike Rodeo will take place 1-4 p.m. Sunday, April 29 at Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The event is open to anyone with a bike. Residents younger than 18 must wear a helmet. The ride will take place at South Post Road from the Regional Park roundabout south to Swan Lake Boulevard. The road will be closed for duration of the 1-, 2- or 3-mile rides.

The rodeo will take place at the basketball courts for various youth age groups and difficulty levels. The League of American Bicyclists-certified instructors will be on hand to answer questions and provide information.

Festivities will also include music, a bounce house, giveaways, food for purchase and more.

Rochelle Koenig, 77, of Weston, was among those selected for membership in the 2012 Senior Hall of Fame by a special committee, coordinated by the Aging and Disability Resource Center of Broward County.

She is a founding member of the Arts Council of Greater Weston and has served as its president.

Guard your picnic baskets because Weston's latest in its Moonlight Movies in the Park is "Yogi Bear," set for 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at the event stage of Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

A documentary filmmaker travels to Jellystone Park to shoot a project and soon crosses paths with Yogi Bear, his sidekick Boo-Boo, and Ranger Smith.

You can bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. The film will be projected onto a giant inflatable screen.

The Midtown Athletic Club, 2300 Royal Palm Blvd. in Weston, is hosting several events in the memory of Marli Wolff, who lost her fight to ovarian cancer in February.

During Wolff's battle, her family established the nonprofit Message From Marli to raise awareness and to educate women about the importance of early detection.

A Girls Night Out spa party is set for 6-8 p.m. Thursday, March 22 featuring manicures, massages, reflexology, facials and more. Cost is $30 and includes drinks and appetizers.

The Ovarian Cycle Spin-A-Thon kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Friday, March 23. The third annual event will have live music, drinks, food, and silent and live auctions. Cost is $75 for one bike or $125 for two. In addition, a 10-and-younger tennis clinic is planned.

All events are open to the public, with all proceeds benefiting the foundation.

For the fifth year, Southwest Ranches was recently recognized by the nonprofit Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA community for its commitment to urban forestry.

The town also received a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program. The award honors environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities. The program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service.

Southwest Ranches has met the four standards of a Tree City USA community: having a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program with annual expenditures of at least $2 per capita, and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Cypress Bay High School in Weston won the North Central Florida High School Science Bowl, competing against 16 other teams from across the region in one of the nation’s regional competitions of the 22nd Annual U.S. Department of Energy National Science Bowl.

The team receives an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the national finals, set for April 26-30 in Washington, D.C. The event brings together thousands of middle and high school students from across the country to compete on a range of science disciplines, including biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, astronomy and math.

United Way of Broward County is asking people throughout the county to contribute to its Teachers Rock campaign by sharing their most inspiring stories about teachers who changed their lives.

These stories will be posted on the group's website. The overall goal of the Teachers Rock campaign is to pay tribute to teachers and support good teaching.

The organization will select the top three most inspirational Broward teacher stories and recognize them in local advertisements. All stories are welcome, but winners must be active or retired Broward County teachers. The deadline to submit stories is Tuesday, May 1.

Sydney's Incredible Defeat of Ewing's Sarcoma (SIDES) was born out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School student's Sydney Lister and her fight with Ewing’s Sarcoma.

In its first few months in existence, the Weston-based organization has raised thousands of dollars toward helping families dealing with the rare bone cancer. The past three fundraisers have been sellouts. In May, SIDES is hosting a golf tournament, and other upcoming events include a sail fishing trip.

The Beauty, Fashion & Fitness benefit event was recently staged at Weston Town Center.

The red carpet was alive with music, a fashion show and other entertainment. Festivities also included an exotic car show and a silent auction to benefit the Deliver the Dream Foundation.

The foundation helps families suffering from a serious illness or crisis. They also organize monthly three-day retreats for families, free of charge.
