Donations will be accepted between between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at the facility, located by soccer field 2 in Weston Regional Park, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The Diabetes Research Institute recently staged the Randi Fibus-Caster Pro Am Diabetes Golf Classic.

After amateurs played golf alongside pros at The Polo Club of Boca Raton, chairpersons Jeanne and Ken Fibus invited nearly 200 guests to join them for a cocktail party and dinner. The event was named for their daughter, who has lived with type 1 diabetes for 50 years, and they were thrilled to announce that it produced $120,000 for the cure-focused work of the DRI.

As part of its wellness initiative, Cleveland Clinic Florida now hosts a weekly farmers' market every Thursday from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. at its Weston campus, 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd., outside its main entrance.

More than 30 local producers and farmers bring their goods, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, breads, juices, flowers, soy products and honey to the market weekly. Prepared food, such as gyros, crepes and mini cheesecakes, also are on sale. The farmers' market will be part of Cleveland Clinic Florida’s annual Health & Wellness Expo, set for 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

Cliff Drysdale Tennis is hosting a "Double the Fun" Tennis Tournament to benefit Kids in Distress from 6:30-10 p.m. Friday, April 27 at 16451 Racquet Club Road in Weston.

Cost is $40 per players 18 and older, $10 for children and spectators. Participants and those there to watch will receive food and drink. Registration is limited to the first 60 paid participants, and play is offered in various skill levels.

A portion of South Post Road, from the Weston Regional Park entrance south to Swan Lake Boulevard, will be closed from 11 a.m.-5 p.m Sunday, April 29 for the Weston Family Fun Ride & Bike Rodeo.

The ride is open to anyone with a bike and runs from 1-3 p.m. Residents can enjoy 1-, 2- or 3-mile loop options with giveaways for making any or all of those lengths. The Broward Sheriff’s Office will be conducting the bike rodeo from 1-3:30 p.m. on the basketball courts at the park, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

The clinic is aimed to teach children of all ages the importance of riding a bicycle safely and what skills and precautions they need to develop to have a safe and fun time while on their bikes. Anyone younger than 18 must have a helmet. Festivities will also include DJ music, bounce houses, bike safety information, booths and concession food available for purchase.

Cleveland Clinic Florida is hosting its annual Health & Wellness Expo from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Jagelman Conference Center, 2950 Cleveland Clinic Blvd. in Weston.

The expo will include nutrition and wellness information, free on-site screenings for blood pressure, glucose and cholesterol, along with medical exhibits and risk assessments.

There also will be a kids’ zone that will include fire truck tours and safety tips for sports concussion prevention. Health and fitness demonstrations will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Students in Heather Evans' third-grade class at Eagle Point Elementary in Weston dropped off handmade pillows and backpacks to Weston Fire Station 81 as part of their Helping Hands volunteer projects coordinated by Melissa Ortiz, a classroom parent volunteer.

The donations will help comfort young victims of fire or medical emergencies. Weston District Fire Chief Harris Bouchillon stopped by the school to thank the students. He also gave out pencils, coloring books, notepads and a toy dalmatian for the children to enjoy.

Sagemont School's Rebecca Turko has signed on the dotted line and is headed to Arkansas-Fort Smith.

This will make her the first girls' basketball player in the Weston school's history to sign an athletic scholarship. Turko averaged eight points and five rebounds this season.

Evan Marcus, a Florida State University student and Cypress Bay High School graduate, will be spending his summer conducting research in the Amazon Rainforest.

Marcus received an undergraduate research fellowship to study how local tribes in the Amazon are reacting to development projects that are impacting the region.

Event chaiman Ross Sabath was presented with the proclamation at a recent meeting. The Weston resident is a cancer survivor. The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature fundraising event.

As part of the 10th annual Relay for Life of Weston, there will be a lead-in event called “The 24hr Run to the Relay For Life of Weston” at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 14 starting at the clock tower in the Weston Town Center.

A group of elite “ultra marathon” runners will be running for 24 hours to bring additional awareness to the main event, while providing an opportunity to raise additional funds for the cause.

From Weston Town Center, participants will then head to Weston Regional Park, where they will run until 4:30 p.m. They will then run to Cypress Bay High School, arriving in time for the 6 p.m. start of the signature event. These athletes will continue to run until 9 a.m. Sunday, April 15. Relay For Life of Weston invites members of the community to join them at any time during the run.

The Sheinberg Family YMCA of Weston, 20201 Saddle Club Road, is hosting a Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

The event is the Y's national initiative to improve the health and well-being of families across the country. An estimated 6,000 people will attend at seven locations across Broward County. The free event includes activities, sports clinics, health screenings, family fitness fun, nutrition education, water safety demos and the opportunity to sign up for summer camp and programs.

City Commissioner Angel Gomez will be on hand at noon to "blow the whistle on childhood obesity."

Registration is under way for the Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School Back to Basics Summer Speed Camp coached by Anjanette “AJ” Kirkland in June.

Kirkland is a two-time world champion for indoor 60-meter hurdles and outdoor 100-meter hurdles and is assistant track coach at the Southwest Ranches school, at 5451 S. Flamingo Road.

In addition to learning the mechanics of running to help participants run better, campers will review a video and receive an analysis of their running style.

Registration is under way for Stroller Strides of Weston at the Weston Community Center, 20200 Saddle Club Road.

Stroller Strides is a fitness program for new moms incorporating both the baby and stroller.

The 60-minute class offers a total body workout. Along with walking, Stroller Strides uses the environment as a gym by doing intervals of body toning using exercise tubing and the stroller.
