Hosptial conducting baseline concussion screenings
Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston will be conducting baseline concussion screenings this week with their sports physicals at the Sagemont School for the first time,
This is a new effort in protecting young athletes from the potential long-term effects of concussion. It coincides with the Broward County School Board passing the Resolution in Support of Concussion Management and Neuro-Cognitive Testing for High School Athletes, which establishes baseline testing for student-athletes.
The baseline screening will involve a computer IMPACT test, which is a series of cognitive tests involving words and shapes. A team of four physicians, four physical therapists and an athletic trainer from Cleveland Clinic Florida will administer the enhanced physicals.
