Weston campers help with effort

Staff from Margate Fire Rescue and Calypso Cove water park, together with the Swim Academy and Camp Sagemont, served as official witnesses for the Guinness Book of World Records 3rd Annual World's Largest Swim Lesson last month.

The event message was “Swimming Lessons Save Lives,” and Camp Sagemont participants in Weston were able to join others from around the world in this record-breaking event.

The World's Largest Swim Lesson is an annual event aimed at preventing one of the leading causes of accidental death in children: drowning. Students from around the world simultaneously entered the pool with instructors and were given a 30-minute lesson standardized for the event.

The event at the Sagemont Aquatic Center was facilitated by the Swim Academy. Division Chief Dan Booker and lifeguard Candice Healy assisted in promoting water safety.
