Southwest Ranches grad finishes training at West Point

Cadet Javier Rodriguez Jr, son of Elaine and Javier Rodriguez, has successfully completed the six-week Cadet Basic Training at the U.S. Military Academy (West Point).

The initial military training program provides cadets with basic skills to instill discipline, pride, cohesion, confidence and a high sense of duty to prepare them for entry into the Corps of Cadets. Areas of summer instruction included first aid, mountaineering, hand grenades, rifle marksmanship and nuclear, biological and chemical training.

The Davie resident and recent graduate of Archbishop Edward A McCarthy High. While at the Southwest Ranches school, Rodriguez won the 2012 state champion title and the 2011 National All American designation in wrestling.

Following his 2016 West Point graduation, Rodriguez will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
