Eight Archbishop Edward A. McCarthy High School juniors graduated from the Youth Leadership Broward Class XXVI/2012-2013 program.
More than 140 guests recently joined the Leadership Broward Foundation to celebrate the graduation of 55 students from this year's YLB program. Graduating from Archbishop McCarthy are Andrew Doll, Alanna Kouri, Kyle Liburd, Liam Moran, Darcelle Pluviose, Amanda Rementeria, Brianna Valdés and John Zarrilli. Additionally, Kouri and Valdes were voted on the Youth Leadership Broward Advisory Council for 2013-2014.
Over the course of eight months, students spend a full school day learning about each facet of Broward County, including: government, judicial system, cultural arts, environment, social services, tourism and business development. Students also met with community leaders and learned about the challenges they face.

The American Cancer Society’s 2013 Relay For Life of Weston will start at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at Cypress Bay High School, 18600 Vista Park Blvd.
Last year, the effort raised more than $237,000 for the American Cancer Society.
This overnight team event brings participants from all parts of the community together in a “celebration of life.” Businesses, civic clubs, religious institutions, friends and families take turns walking in relay fashion.
Festivities will include a grand opening ceremony, Taste of Weston ($10 fee), Kidz Zone, raffles, Chinese lantern release at dark, a luminaria ceremony and more. Runner Andrei Nan will be running for 36 hours in memory of her mother.

On Monday, April 29 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., all turns will be restricted on to Weston Road from Griffin. Traffic will be detoured to Bonaventure Boulevard. Motorists are asked to avoid this area or utilize a different access point.
On Monday, May 5, construction moves to Segment 2: South Post Road to Royal Palm Boulevard. This construction will take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. for two weeks.
Notes on pavement markings on Royal Palm Boulevard:
Temporary pavement markings (with traffic paint) have been installed. A quality control inspection of the newly installed surface is carried out in the weeks following the pavement installation. Paver crosswalks will be cleaned to remove any asphalt paving residue. The new asphalt surface must be allowed to cure for several weeks prior to the application of the permanent thermoplastic pavement markings.

The winner will receive $250. Other finalists will receive recognition in the video. The hope is to shed a personal light on the problem from a young person's perspective.
