Howard Stern Show fixture Artie Lange walked out of the studio after an argument and subsequent outburst at his personal assistant on the air.
Lange, who became a part of the show's daily routine in October of 2001, was spotted disputing with his assistant in the hallways off the air. When it was brought up to Stern, he asked the assistant Teddy to come into the studio and discuss the situation on the air.
Lange began to express his disdain for his assistant of nearly two years because of recent money issues. Teddy retorted by implying there's more to the job than meets the eye.

As the argument continued, Lange became enraged and physically lashed out at Teddy, but the physical confrontation was apparently defused by other members in the studio.
When Lange returned, he said Teddy would be "dead" had he reached him and he would be in jail.
Stern then expressed his feelings on the situation, saying he cannot condone Lange's actions. The comedian, who has had a similar outburst on the air in the past, said he cannot guarantee he can refrain from acting out in the future. Upon hearing that, Stern said he cannot have Lange around with the potential of such actions looming.
Artie then offered his resignation; Stern accepted, but told Lange to leave and cool off. Just before Lange left he told Stern: "I'm not a good person ... I gotta leave ... I love you"
Teddy returned to the studio several minutes later and said there was overreacting from everyone, but did not downplay the seriousness of the situation.
Show producer Gary Dell'Abate came in to analyze the situation, but he and Stern admitted they "did not know what to make of it all."
Stern does not host a live show on Fridays and the crew is on vacation next week.
If Artie is booted, who will replace him? We have some ideas.

It's been sad listen to Artie commit suicide on the air. He's an addict and his trip to drug-heaven Amsterdam is likely what set off his latest manic episode. Howard and crew have been enabling Artie for years. They like his outbursts, his out of control eating, and even seem to tolerate his alcohol and drug abuse. The guy is a mess. He needs professional help, drug rehab, alcohol rehab, and he needs to drop about 120 lbs before his body just stops functioning. If he continues on his current path, he likely has less than 6 months to live. His "friends" need to intervene and get him cleaned up. Otherwise, they'll be blaming themselves when he's gone. He's a smart guy and a very funny comic. But he's messed up. He needs to fix himself first and the crew on that show should do anything possible to get that started.
If Arte had a mustache, none of this ever would have happened.

Artie you need to get your life together. Being on this show is the only reason your still alive. It gives you a reason to wake up every morning. Everyone at the show only has your best interests at heart. You owe Teddy a huge apology. He has been nothing but loyal to you. You state that you're not the prototypical star but abusing your assistant and jeopardizing your career makes you know better the Farley, Belushi, Naomi :)
Artie has progressed from a mediocre comedian to a pardoy of himself. He is NOT an everyday Joe. He is a low-rent, classless, talentless, boring, obese waste of time and money. His movies are embarrassingly bad. I'm not going to say I never laugh at him - I do! But there are so many people who could fill his seat WITHOUT the gay bashing, incorrect grammar, and repetitive stories.
Bye bye, jackass, and good riddance.

yesterday when artie was sleeping was the funniest stuff ive ever heard. Like Gary told the f@get writer on the wrapup show Artie is a grown man and capable of making his own decisions. Plus it was a funny contribution by Artie, he always makes excellent contributions. he will be back. the show will be less funny if he's not there.

Artie has been on the road to self destruction for quite a while now. After his almost physical confrontation of Sal, his verbal assault on Mike and now this rage filled tirade of Teddy, it is more than obvious that he is sabotaging his career and his life in general. He needs some serious down time.

Such a sad, sad day. Artie's got some issues he needs to deal with, and unfortunately, until then he's just like a grenade ready to explode. I hope he gets the help he needs, and quickly. He's a HUGE asset to the show, and I'd hate to see him leave. F Jackie - he was NOT nearly as funny as Artie. The fans have already spoken of their fondness of Artie. He was voted, by far, the most loved member of the show, and he's got the biggest heart of them all, as well. Take care, Art & get well. I can't wait to hear you back on the show. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when emotions are involved, so don't beat yourself up for too long over this. We luv ya!

artie doesnt do drugs anymore. granted people take it like a grain of salt but how many times he has to explain himself but he says he doesnt. what else could he do to make people believe him. his immune system is messed up according to a doctor, hes over worked (late night gigs during the week and weekends abroad) and he's overweight, thats why he misses work sometimes not bec he supposedly does drugs.
and yes people listen to stern where have u been lately living in antartica or are u just 80 years old without any technology

Damn. I love Artie but I didn't recognize the raging maniac this morning. I really think he is a loose cannon who could possibly take a few people with him when he goes out. I also think this behavior is fueled by his drug abuse. I think he may be taking a drug that causes
this kind of reaction to the slightest provocation. Artie needs help.
Artie will soon find out that it is the Stern Show that is making his career not the other way around..

Howards ego caused this breakdown!!
You heard it here first - Howard has been in therapy for so long he thinks he is a therapist. Teddy tried to leave the studio 6 times but Howie made him stay. Even Robin told him to let it go. Ego maniac Howard thinks he can cure anyone! He wanted to be the hero that made Teddy and Artie all better. A man of lesser ego would have let this go!
Also - Howard tried to enrage Artie even more by calling him Bro when he came back into the studio. And Howard tries to play the "how would I know card". F you Howard. The days Artie is out that show sucks.

I think Artie is funny, a much better co-host than Jackie, a good caring person, great for the Stern show, and all the other good things you can say. Unfortunately, like some of our other great comedians whose lives ended too soon, Game Over . He clearly knows what his problems are and how to fix them. He has tried re-hab before and it hasn't worked. In Artie's mind, he is so messed up and so far down the rabbit hole, there's no escape. He has lost all hope. When people lose all hope, there's no reason to live (in their mind).
Howard is the ONLY person that Artie respects highly enough to stop and listen to (1-on1, privately, off the air). Howard is probably the only person who can actually help save Artie at this point and intervene. If Howard doesn't somehow stop Artie from getting on that plane to Amsterdam, Artie will come back lying down. I know that's a huge burden/responsibility for Howard. Howard certainly didn't ask for it and it's a $h!tty deal, but task is his nonetheless.
Artie: If by some chance you read this, there is ALWAYS hope. Even if you can't see it yourself, it doesn't mean it isn't there.
Very scary stuff to listen to. And depressing since I seriously doubt ANY employer would let such a person BACK in the building. It's NOT safe.

What made you come to this news item and what is making you interact if you don't listen? Whether it's staged or reality or a combination of both, we find it entertaining. Satellite radio is growing exponentially and is the future of radio, so attempting to call Howard "prehistoric" is just silly.
it's all a buncha crap, none of it's real, fat artie and teddy will be @ the airport later today leaving for amsterdam, acting like nothing's wrong, cuz there IS NOTHING WRONG. it was just a ploy to get out of the studio early for the trip, trust me. Listeners are too gullible, and this is just the kinda crap that keeps stern and the show in the media...the show's on vacation next week (no, they don't deserve ten weeks of vacation a year, but there's nothing any of us subscribers can do about it, except of course, cancel our subscriptions) and when they come back from the week of vacation, they'll ALL be there, trust me...it's JUST a "BIT" for the show, period. Listening to the show for the past couple years on sirius, and seeing the obviously scripted arguments take place, it's more and more evident every day that the show is contrived and scripted more than any listener realizes.

I personally hate sports, and sports figures make BILLIONS of dollars off of people who enjoy sports. I think that's the most ridiculous waste of time, energy and money there is, but I don't go on sports sites to call people morons.

it's all an act... they plan this stuff out to draw people in.. do you think it's a coincidence that this happened on the day before a week long vacation??? they call it a cliff-hanger.
After listening to the play back it is obvious, in my opinion, that Howard caused this. He just couldn't let it go. Teddy wanted to leave the studio and said so numerous times but Howard would not let him leave. Howard just kept it going and going when he should have sensed that this could go wrong in a big way. Howard should learn a lesson from this. There are consequences when a person, especially a powder keg like Artie, is pushed too far. If Artie had of had a gun there would have been some dead people, including himself. Artie needs help quick! Also, I don't believe this was staged, that was real rage coming from Artie.
The greatest actor could not have faked that.
Artie has a full menu of problems so it not hard to imagine him going ballistic. He is frustrated about his life and doesn't need aggravation from Teddy. If it wasn't today's action it would have been something else. Artie is a time bomb but still is a lovable guy. He has a lot of great qualities. He just needs a bit of help to break those destructive patterns before it is too late..

I really hope subsequent media attention does not drag Artie further down the spiral he's on. In a way I hope he does go to Amsterdam so he's not exposed to the tabloid tv and print articles which will convince him even further he's a "bad person."
Artie is too generous with money and of heart. So, when people act plainly toward him, he feels like he's being victimized. I am familiar with this kind of behavior and it's sad. Artie's too good for his own good.
This is just a sad situation all around. I really hope he doesn't leave. And I can't believe we have to wait over a week to find out! I think I'm gonna hop a plain to Amsterdam to get some resolution!

I've listened for 15+ years and can say that NOTHING they do like that is FAKE or STAGED. Of course they do bits! But when they are discussing items like this, it's not a BIT and it's obvious when they are doing BITS.
It's the WHOLE point of the Stern show. Honest talk at ALL times. People who doubt this just have difficulty imagining the last 20+ years could have been ON_THE_LEVEL. It would BLOW most people's brains.

artie said a long time ago, anything that goes good for him he usually destroys and loses... he is in desparate need of help.. he needs an intervention.. this is no joke.... he is out of control with addiction.. he is abusing food, subutex alcohol and god knows what else... this is the kind of guy we hear from families about all the time..... he is near the end.. and could end up dead ..... i believe you all know it... howard can call intervention 911, the do the show on A&E.... tell i911 behavioral health of the palm beaches referred you and talk to a guy named jeff... they will take care of the rest and the whole intervention.. this guy,.... some love some hate... artie has not much time left... .
I doubt that fight was staged. The emotion and anger was too real. Take note of Stern reprimanding Robin (in a serious manner) afterwards. That rarely happens.
To all those morons out there saying this is fake get your heads out of your rears. What has always made Stern unique is that it brutally real. Day in and day out you see their real lives, worries, problems and emotions. Nothing is censored. There are going to be eruptions like this just like in real life. There is nothing "celebrity" about anyone on the show, you see how real people react to real and stressful situation. You dont see that ANYWHERE else out there. Everyone on the show's problems and daily lives are all out there for us to see.
Second most importantly Sirius is a paid subscription service, they dont need to coerce you to listen again when they get back from vacation they already got you! The only people that heard this are those who already pay and listen. That fact makes the accusation completely illogical. They get new listeners mostly by word of mouth, if they pulled scripted bullshit it would work against them not for them. Your making assumptions based on terrestrial radio and broadcast tv, your lack of understanding of this shows your intelligence level.
And lastly, this will all be on Howard TV, unedited and uncensored. Then we can all see how it REALLY went down. Name for me anywhere else where you can find that kind of in your face reality and honesty. No one else puts it out there like that.

Artie Lange has not been funny for a long, long time. He's just a ridiculous parody of himself. I get so sick of everyone trying to help him with everything like he can't even function without them. Geez - wish I could sleep on the job. What a waste of space. can he go 30 minutes without either:
a) Talking about assaulting someone or wanting to.
b) Calling someone a fag or wishing AIDS upon them like a juvenile moron.
c) Mentioning having been a longshoreman or in construction - who gives a f*ck...I was a commercial fisherman in the North Atlantic for years, but noone cares and it is not relevant to most conversations I have, dumba**.
d) Talking about heroin or blow.
e) Offering 10 grand to bang any and every half-decent looking girl who enters the studio.
f) Using the word "broad".
g) Hating someone or something on the show that FEEDS him.
Gilbert and Takei full-time, NOW. Gilbert is a complete riot and we all know he's not going to assault anyone.

We need the audio.... it is almost a sure thing that this is a ruse to keep listeners all peaked while they take a not so rare vacation.
