BEST OF 2007: Top Singles #15-11 (Against Me!, Glasvegas, Boys Like Girls, Los Campesinos, The Academy Is...)

#25-21

#20-16

15. Avril Lavigne feat. Lil Mama, “Girlfriend (Remix)” (RCA): I admit it, I wasn’t crazy about the original version, but Lil Mama’s flashy rhymes and irresistible “B-R-double-O-K-lyn” style makes it all worthwhile.

14. LCD Soundsystem, “North American Scum” (DFA/Capitol): It starts out like a minimalist Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark dance track before blossoming into a ranting freak-out.

13. Miranda Lambert, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” (Columbia): The fiery opposite of prim-and-proper Carrie Underwood, Lambert crystallizes her twangy, trouble-making ways in this wild-eyed slab of country fun.

12. Stars, “Take Me to the Riot” (Arts & Crafts): The pretty give-and-take between Torquil Campbell and Amy Millan veers away from melodrama into a world of youthful indiscretions, irrational exuberance and roaring guitars.

11. White Stripes, “Icky Thump” (Third Man/Warner Bros.): A raucous rollercoaster ride of rock that doubles for cogent commentary on immigration reform is pretty amazing. The chugging, ready-for-the-devil-horns guitars are simply a bonus.
