After days of giddy celebration amongst fans of Led Zeppelin and Metallica, it turns out those bands will not be playing the Bonnaroo festival after all.
"The rumors that are out there about the Bonnaroo 2008 headliners are inaccurate," according to a statement from Superfly Presents and AC Entertainment, the promoters of the Manchester, Tenn.-based festival. "We'll be announcing the confirmed lineup toward the end of January/beginning of February."
The statement, released to Billboard.com, also throws cold water on expectations that Led Zeppelin might reunite for a tour. For now, the band's only planned show is Dec. 10 in London as part of a tribute to the late Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records.
The Bonnaroo rumours were initially fueled by an unidentified email published Dec. 1 in the newsletter of Bob Lefsetz, a well-known music writer.
