The Nazi Is Back

greys_george&callie.jpg

Holy crap! I mean, seriously. I really wish there were cameras in the room when I watch Grey's. My facial expressions have to be priceless. My jaw drops, I hold my breath and I stop blinking during very serious, unexpected moments. In this episode, it was the proposals. I must admit I read a lot of TV gossip columns and I knew the George/Callie thing was coming. However, Burke suggesting marriage was not on the agenda. I mean, that guy doesn't skip a beat. She had barely finished her "Im in for the long haul" speech when he said "Marry Me." WOW! Funny how proposals are usually such an exciting experience for females and these broads couldn't seem less excited. In my book, George won for best heartfelt, sincere speech but Burke's was to the point - also admirable. If I had to place a bet, I would put my money on Callie and George. Why? Because they make less sense as a couple. If this show was predictable and all the right people ended up together, it would not be called a drama. I just think Christina will say something like "I dont know if I beleive in marriage." Maybe Im wrong. Either way, I cant wait to find out. I will say that with all the "I Love You"s and "Im always going to show up"s - they have all officially jinxed themselves. The ball is about to drop and all the happy couples are going to be questioning their relationships really soon. As McDreamy was caressing Mere's face, I seriously thought "Oh no, that's the end of them." Once again, maybe Im wrong but happy couples that calmly work through problems and spoon at night - do not last very long on TV.

Ok, now on to my observations....Meredith is border line heroine - chique with a wet mop on her head. Each week, as Callie and Addison's hair gets better, Meredith's gets worse. Really, I know it rains a lot in Seattle, but why does MG recently look like she just stepped out of a thunderstorm. Next, George has apparently been working out. Maybe I have just never seen him with his shirt off but he is definitely buffer than I expected. As far as Izzie, I am so happy she will be getting rid of the freaking money. The fact that she has been holding on to 8 million dollars, bugs the crap out of me. Who in their right mind can hold on to that much money and not so much as buy an expensive shirt? Or a steak dinner? Or an autographed picture of Scott Baio off of Ebay? I really think she should have taken all the interns on an island getaway. If nothing else, pay for a night of drinking at Joe's. Seriously, how selfish of her!

Dead Dad's Club

If you didn't cry during this episode, didn't hold back a tear, take a hard deep breathe or even sniffle - you need to have someone check your pulse. You are either dead or you are heartless, in which case there is no cure. About midway through this episode, I didn't think it could hold a candle to the other death episodes - the bomb, Denny, Doc the dog - but I was wrong. I would rank this in the top 5, maybe top 3 tear-jerking episodes in Grey's history. It's usually the most random things that set me over the edge. Tonight, it was Christina's monotone attempt at compassion and sympathy. When others would offer a hug or the inevitable one-liner "its going to be ok," Christina just tells it like it is. That's when the tears started to pour for me. The theme I took away from this episode was You Can't Escape. You can't escape death. You can't escape the truth. You can't escape your past and you can't escape heartache. As proved to us by Addison Montgomery...you can be intelligent, beautiful, successful and married to a TV Guide cover story hottie and you may still end up alone. Depressing. Seriously depressing.

On a lighter note, when I wasn't crying I was making several observations. 1. Why is George always wearing a hoodie? Is it just me or does he seem to be the spokesperson for Old Navy? 2. Why does Addison wear satin shirts under her white coat? The other attendings do not dress up. She is often in surgery and wearing salmon colored scrubs, that sure is a lot of wardrobe changes for a doctor. 3. When Izzie goes on a baking binge...who eats all the goodies? She obviously doesn't. Meredith DEFINITELY doesn't. Maybe she brings them to the hospital for the nurses or McD grabs a few treats on his way out.

Finally, instead of going into detail, here's a quick recap of the rest of the episode:

Meredith's snoring issue resolved - cute, typical, of course they spoon when they sleep
Burke speaking indirectly to Christina - thank you, its about freaking time
Bailey crying in the hallway - i love that woman
Alex and Addison - not convinced yet
Addison having an abortion - wow! didnt see that coming
George and Callie - something big is going to happen and i am not sure what. Its going to be big and I dont know if I can handle it.

Say Uncle

NOTE TO SELF: Watching your favorite TV show AFTER it has aired an original episode is not the same. Tonight, I had prior obligations. Therefore, I needed to record GA. And when I say record, I don't mean TiVo. I mean old school style, get your roommate to hit the record button on your TV/VCR combo at exactly 8:00pm. I must admit, its a different experience. I am aware that GA is not a live performance taped in front of a studio audience, but there's something about watching your favorite show in its entirety with all the commercial breaks. It gives you time to breathe, time to take in the drama and time to crave what will happen next. You just dont get that same feeling when you can zip through the commercials. Anyway, before I get into the core of the episode, I have an observation. I think ole Mere must be getting ready to jump on the hair color spokesperson band wagon. Her hair seems to be crossing into a stronger brunette category. If she's not already been picked up by Garnier Nutrisse or Loreal - they need to step on it. Speaking of Mere, I see drama in her future. Her and McD have been on a 2 episode lovey dovey streak and that means only one thing - rocky roads are ahead. I cant quite put my finger on where the source of the problem will come in (it wont be the snoring), but I can see the stormy clouds forming. I give them one more episode before a fallout. Last but not least, this episode seemed to surround the idea of giving in or saying "uncle" if you will. Each character seemed to face a crossroads where they could continue or they could give in. Meredith and her dad. Christina and Burke. Izzie and her check (p.s. so predictable if she gives the money to the 90 degrees girl - that may sound harsh but Im not sure what her name was). George and his dad. Callie and George. Alex and Addison. Some of them will choose to give in to their pride or whatever else is holding them back and take a step in a new direction. Others will hang on and will inevitably be deprived of their right to decide because someone will decide for them.
