Dead Dad's Club

If you didn't cry during this episode, didn't hold back a tear, take a hard deep breathe or even sniffle - you need to have someone check your pulse. You are either dead or you are heartless, in which case there is no cure. About midway through this episode, I didn't think it could hold a candle to the other death episodes - the bomb, Denny, Doc the dog - but I was wrong. I would rank this in the top 5, maybe top 3 tear-jerking episodes in Grey's history. It's usually the most random things that set me over the edge. Tonight, it was Christina's monotone attempt at compassion and sympathy. When others would offer a hug or the inevitable one-liner "its going to be ok," Christina just tells it like it is. That's when the tears started to pour for me. The theme I took away from this episode was You Can't Escape. You can't escape death. You can't escape the truth. You can't escape your past and you can't escape heartache. As proved to us by Addison Montgomery...you can be intelligent, beautiful, successful and married to a TV Guide cover story hottie and you may still end up alone. Depressing. Seriously depressing.

On a lighter note, when I wasn't crying I was making several observations. 1. Why is George always wearing a hoodie? Is it just me or does he seem to be the spokesperson for Old Navy? 2. Why does Addison wear satin shirts under her white coat? The other attendings do not dress up. She is often in surgery and wearing salmon colored scrubs, that sure is a lot of wardrobe changes for a doctor. 3. When Izzie goes on a baking binge...who eats all the goodies? She obviously doesn't. Meredith DEFINITELY doesn't. Maybe she brings them to the hospital for the nurses or McD grabs a few treats on his way out.

Finally, instead of going into detail, here's a quick recap of the rest of the episode:

Meredith's snoring issue resolved - cute, typical, of course they spoon when they sleep
Burke speaking indirectly to Christina - thank you, its about freaking time
Bailey crying in the hallway - i love that woman
Alex and Addison - not convinced yet
Addison having an abortion - wow! didnt see that coming
George and Callie - something big is going to happen and i am not sure what. Its going to be big and I dont know if I can handle it.

I loved Christina's lines because they are true. I've been a memner of the Dead Dad's club since I was eight and every line that came out of her reflected on the truth. Excellent writing.
