Idol Finalist Sierra Turned Down After Arrest

Jessica%20Sierra.jpg
The organizer of a concert billed as a holiday tribute to U.S. troops said yesterday that former American Idol finalist Jessica Sierra was disinvited from performing after her recent arrest. But even if Sierra wanted to sing at the event Friday in Washington, she couldn't. The 22-year-old is being held without bail at the Hillsborough County jail in Tampa, Fla., on charges of disorderly intoxication and resisting arrest. She is to remain there at least until her next hearing, scheduled Dec. 20... For more of this story check out

Of course being turned down was a result of last weeks arrest which went as follows:

Tampa Police say Jessica Sierra threw up in the back seat of a patrol cruiser at the club where she was arressted -- and vomited again after arriving at the hillsborough county jail.
cops aluso say the twenty-two year old offered oral sex to the police officer if he would let her go, and used a barrage of racial slurs at the scene, on the way to jail and at the jail.

Sierra is being charged with disorderly intoxication, resisting arrest, felony battery and possession of cocaine.
This is not the first time sierra's gotten herself into trouble with the law ... in November, she was sentenced to twelve months probation and random drug screening after being accesed of hitting a man on the head with a glass at a nightclub.
During an apprearance in court on Sunday, a judge told Sierra she is facing more than eleven years in prison. Since Sierra violated the terms of her probation, no bond has been set for her release.

It's amazing how different she looks!

TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS TO PERFORM DURING THE BRIDGESTONE SUPER BOWL XLII HALFTIME SHOW

SUPERBOWL2008_COBRAND_r1.psd.jpg
TOM PETTY & THE HEARTBREAKERS, one of America’s greatest rock and roll bands, will perform in the BRIDGESTONE SUPER BOWL XLII HALFTIME SHOW on FOX43 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Arizona on Sunday, February 3, the NFL announced today on national television during the FOX NFL SUNDAY pre-game show.

The halftime show is one of the most anticipated musical events of the year. Nearly 140 million viewers in the U.S. watched last year’s show.

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS released their debut album in 1976. Since that time they have sold more than 50 million records and earned a reputation as being among the most successful and exciting touring acts in the business. Between the Heartbreakers’ recordings and his solo work, Tom Petty has received 18 Grammy nominations. Honored with lifetime achievement awards including Billboard’s Century Award, MTV’s Video Vanguard Award, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Tom Petty, with the Heartbreakers at his side, has achieved the status of legend among his fellow musicians and listeners worldwide.

Petty and the Heartbreakers are responsible for one of the richest deposits in the history of American song, with hits including “Free Fallin’,” “Breakdown,” “Refugee,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “American Girl,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More,” “The Waiting,” “You Don’t Know How It Feels,” “Runnin’ Down A Dream,” and more. Petty is a founding member of The Traveling Wilburys, playing alongside George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Jeff Lynne, and is recognized as one of rock and roll’s most distinctive voices. For young bands looking to capture the authentic spirit of American rock and roll at its best, the Heartbreakers are the gold standard. The band’s story, captured as never before in the recent Peter Bogdanovich documentary Runnin’ Down A Dream, is a centerpiece in American musical history.

Joining an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, and Prince, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers bring prestige and undiluted rock and roll to the Bridgestone Super Bowl XLII Halftime Show.

The game and halftime show will be broadcast worldwide in more than 230 countries and territories.

This year marks the first time Bridgestone has sponsored the Super Bowl halftime show. Bridgestone will also sponsor the Super Bowl XLIII halftime show in 2009.

The BRIDGESTONE SUPER BOWL XLII HALFTIME SHOW is an NFL NETWORK PRODUCTION and will be executive produced and directed by WHITE CHERRY ENTERTAINMENT and DON MISCHER PRODUCTIONS. This same team produced the NFL Opening Kickoff 2007 special from Indianapolis. In addition to the halftime show, they also will produce the Super Bowl XLII pregame show. Don Mischer Productions will serve as executive producer and director, while White Cherry Entertainment, led by Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, will serve as executive producers.

The NFL has worked the past four years with both Don Mischer Productions and White Cherry Entertainment on Opening Kickoff and Super Bowl shows. Last year’s Super Bowl XLI Halftime Show starring Prince earned the producers two Emmy nominations.

AMERICAN IDOL WINNER JORDIN SPARKS' DISAPPOINTING ALBUM SALES

Jordan%20Sparks.bmp“American Idol” season 6 winner Jordin Sparks was expected to fly out of the gate with her new album, but it looks like her album sales for the first week are the lowest of any “Idol” winner. Granted, it’s the first week, but Billboard is reporting Jordin Sparks’ album is “the lowest start and smallest sales debut for any of the show’s winners.” Ouch.

Look on the bright side, though. Jordin Sparks’ debut is sitting at number 10 on the Billboard 200. However, it’s only sold 119,000 copies. Look at it this way: Kelly Clarkson, who won the first season of “American Idol,” sold 297,400 albums and was number one on the charts the first week. Ruben Studdard sold 416,000 and was #1; Fantasia Barrino sold more than 239,00 and was #8; Carrie Underwood sold 315,000 and landed at #2; Taylor Hicks sold 298,000 and was #2.

What do you think? Does Jordan have what it takes to compete with previous American Idol winners? Is it time to stop seeking Idols? Have we already found the best America has to offer?
