SYTYCD #23: Season 4 is Over!

SYTYCD Blog

Well, everyone, So You Think You Can Dance? Season 4 has come to an end! The Top 4 put in amazing performances on Wednesday, but America voted...and it all comes down to one lucky and talented winner. I was a little surprised by it, though.

Really? I wasn't at all.

We'll discuss that more in just a little bit. Let's start off by going through the big finale, though. I assumed everyone watched?

DancerX.jpgThis was the best year we've ever seen...the dances have been spectacular. And as nice as it would have been to relive the greatest moments of Season 4...no. Dancer X did not watch, already knowing how the show was going to end, anyway.

Clyde.jpgGood man or woman or whatever you are, X. I'll fully admit, I didn't watch the entire show. In fact, I was watching the season finale of Last Comic Standing, and, while I DID predict the winner of THAT show correctly...only saw bits and pieces of SYTYCD. No big, deal, though...I mean, they only had 2 minutes worth of interesting new information to tell us.

Nope. Didn't care at all. Who won?

Well...I was going to have us talk about the entire finale and hold that off until the end, but...if no one WATCHED, we might as well forget that idea.

Tango.jpgNow, just a minute, Julie! Not all of us let you down. Of course I watched! It was a great show, and it's a disgrace that those three decided not to tune in. I oughta' lock you all away!

DancerX.jpgKeep your hands off Dancer X! It is not necessary to watch when you have ALREADY SCRIPTED OUT THE ENTIRE SHOW FOR AMERICA. LOOK AT THE PREDICTIONS...DANCER X IS A GENIUS!

Sit down, Dancer X. And, thank you, Sgt. Tango. At least YOU were there with us! Overall, good finale, better than American Idol's finale. And no Julie, that wasn't a jab at your precious David Cook, that was a jab at how annoying, overdone, and lame American Idol is. I mean did you see an 10 minute long advertisements for a Mike Myers movie during the show tonight? No. It was all about the dancing. Well done Nigel, and Simon Fuller on getting at least one show right.

Clyde.jpgI can't believe anyone would call this stupid show lame compared to Idol. Idol is absolutely vanilla and predictable, and they waste a LOT of time. But THIS show is a disjointed, unbearable parade of annoying people. There's no contest...Idol is SO much better, I can't believe that this thing has even been on the air for 4 seasons.

You know what? This is actually pretty interesting...let's just talk about the show a bit and maybe we can bring up a thing or two that happened during the finale, just kind of do a highlight reel and then go to the big results!

Sounds good to me. Did they do the Bollywood dance, again?

SYTYCD #22: The Last Dance (or Six)

SYTYCD Blog

Dance%20Crew.jpg

Well, we are down to the top four, and tonight we have a full house judging. First up Mandy Moore is on the actual judging panel, and here's EVERYONE on our judging team! Julie Heart and I are joined by Artie Funk, Clyde Collins, Dancer X, and Officer Tango!

Tango.jpgThat's SERGEANT Tango. I was a Sergeant.

Oh, right. How could I have forgotten? Anyway, as you can see, the whole panel of guest judges is here with us, tonight...

...big show, big panel! We've got a huge night of dancing to sort through, and it is going to be harder than EVER to make a call on who should win it all.

top4.jpg
Your Top 4 Finalists!
Pictured L-R: Twitch Boss, Katee Shean, Courtney Galiano and Joshua Allen.

In all honesty, I think I would be happy if any of these dancers win. They were all such a joy to watch this season!

Clyde.jpgLook, they've already sent Chelsie home, so...I've got no favorites left in this competition. I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that Twitch will win, before even watching anything, just because he comes with a brand name and people get behind that kind of thing.

Oh, Clyde...will we EVER get to the end of a reality show without you whining about the one you like being sent home?

Clyde.jpgUntil America starts picking the right people to win, no! Probably. Instead we get stuck with bald phonies like David Coo -

DON'T YOU DARE, CLYDE! I WILL HAVE SECURITY THROW YOU OUT OF THIS BUILDING IF YOU START MESSING WITH DAVID COOK, DO YOU HEAR ME?! HE IS A STAR, HE WON, HE'S GREAT, LEAVE HIM ALONE!

Clyde.jpgSeriously? You'll have me kicked out?

Wait...NO! YOU'D LIKE THAT! I'LL FORCE YOU TO WATCH THE ENTIRE SHOW THREE TIMES, TIED TO THE CHAIR, CLOCKWORK ORANGE-STYLE, YOU WILL BE HERE FOR SIX HOURS OF DANCING!

Clyde.jpgTouchy, touchy, Julie. I'll leave Baldo out of it, that's fine. But I'm still calling Twitch to win. Half out of cheeky disrespect for the show, half out of having seen him dance two or three times, this season.

Interesting prediction, Clyde...but even though you've already named who you think will win, you still have to stay here and watch the entire show with us!

Clyde.jpgSeriously? Ugh. I hoped that would've been enough - I even tried firing Julie up about that troll David Cook...

I hate David Cook as much as you do, like any reasonable person who likes music that doesn't suck. You know that. But, sorry...you're stuck here.

Hey! You knock it off, too!

Ha ha. Couldn't resist. But, sorry, Clyde...you're stuck here with us for the ENTIRE show.

Clyde.jpgIT'S JUST SO...LONG! I mean, come on! I was in Maui, for crying out loud! MAUI, Daph!

Boo hoo hoo. Just relax and watch the show, Collins! And stop calling me "Daph!"

DancerX.jpgDancer X also believes Clyde is acting like a crybaby!

Yeah? Well...I'm with my dogg, Clyde! I'm sorry, lovely ladies...but I have TRIED to watch this show a few times this summer to help you out...and it is probably the worst thing ever.

Artie! We're about to start the big finale!

Clyde.jpgWhy do we always come here?

I guess we'll never know...

Artie%20and%20Clyde.jpgIt's like a kind of TORTURE to have to watch this show!

Very funny, Muppets. Now, this is the LAST night of dancing...so, let's just watch and have fun! Courtney and Twitch are first up doing a Hip Hop routine.

Two of Four of the So You Think You Can Dance Finalists Collapsed During Saturday Rehearsals.

A pair of So You Think You Can Dance finalists reportedly took the expression "dance 'til you drop" a little too literally.

Two of So You Think You Can Dance's Top 4 fourth-season finalists reportedly collapsed during Saturday rehearsals and were subsequently rushed to nearby Cedars Sinai Hospital, People reported Monday.

"The kids are completely dehydrated -- two of them," So You Think You Can Dance judge Mary Murphy told People. "I'm sure they're doing a lot of blood work to see if there's anything else."

SYTYCD Blog #21: We Have Our Top 4 Finalists

SYTYCD Blog

We are down to the top four and on our way to the Season Finale. The show started off with a Mandy Moore choreographed group number, and performances by Lady GaGa and a 6 year old dancing phenomenon by the name of Lil' Demon. Also news from guest judge Adam Shankman, the winner will be receiving a dancing role in an upcoming movie being produced by Shankman himself. At the end of the show Mark and Chelsie were sent home. This means our top 4 dancers competing in next week finale are Twitch, Joshua, Courtney, and Katee.

Well, I am happy with tonight’s results. And I was definitely reassured in my choice of Courtney over Chelsie tonight after the group number. Chelsie was struggling to do some of those movie, where Courtney was doing the dance effortlessly. I have stated that in the couple dances Chelsie has been better than Courtney throughout the season, but she was terrible with the solos. And we were looking for the best “dancer”, not the best “group dancer”. So I do believe that Courtney was the best choice. It is sad to see Chelsie go, because she was a joy to watch, and very talented. I think she has a bright future ahead of her. As for the loss of Mark, he is also a great dancer, but as I said yesterday, his time was up two weeks ago. Finally, wasn’t that Lil’ Demon so cute? Absolutely adorable, and he’s got some great moves. That is a star in the making right there. So next week is the finale, and I am ready for it! It is going to be one heck of a show.

The group dance at the beginning had some really nice partnering moves that I enjoyed and Lil’ Demon was pretty cool for a six year old kid, but Lady GaGa looked like a freaky reject from the eighties. Her mic kind of sucked, but I don’t think I would have enjoyed the song even with a good microphone. It was like a train wreck that you just couldn’t look away though.

I was not surprised to see Katee and Joshua picked first as part of the final four. They had such an amazing night last night, I would have been surprised to see either leave the competition. As I said yesterday, Courtney and Chelsie were neck and neck, I stand by my call that Chelsie is the better dancer of the two, but I am glad to see Courtney in the finale-she was an early favorite for me. If Twitch had been voted off I think I would have quit the show immediately, after Will left, he’s my favorite guy. I like Mark, but I think even he knew that he was just a little too weird to be America’s favorite dancer. My vote for the winner of the competition now sits with Katee, I’m not sure if she’s the most popular dancer, but I think she has the most talent of the people that are left. I think Twitch however is the most popular, so he could very well win it too.

DancerX.jpgAs Dancer X stated, Courtney and Mark were the weak pairing of the night… Dance #1 was boring and Dance #2 was stupid. Effectively, they went from unmemorable to obnoxious, but Courtney’s past performances with Gev kept her alive. Perhaps undeservedly, although Dancer X can’t think of a single thing that Chelsie did last night so Dancer X has no issues with her unceremonious exit. Dancer X had a crazy Wednesday night after the show, but for unrelated reasons.

As for Mark, he’s been a character, and generally enjoyable to watch, but his brand of silliness clearly does not resonate with America when compared to the super-tight, high-energy moves of Twitch and Joshua.

Dancer X is very excited for next week’s finale. Dancer X calls it: the final two will not include Courtney. She has been overshadowed by the other three. Twitch has been floating along on post-Twitchington goodwill, and his weird stunting (gold teeth?!?) this week hurt him a bit… leaving Katee and Joshua to rise to the top. Although wait for the inevitable SWITCHEROO as Katee picks Twitch from the random partner hat.

Dancer X predicts L’il Demon FTW.

SYTYCD Blog #20 - Who Will be a Finalist?

SYTYCD Blog

I cannot believe that we’re down to six dancers, and I still can’t believe that Will is gone! Tonight’s dances will determine who will be in the finale, so I hope you’re voting; I want to see Twitch in the final four! Adam Shankman joins the judges tonight, and Daphne and I are joined by the infamous Dancer X.

SYTYCD Blog #19: We're Down to 6!

SYTYCD Blog

The Top 8 dancers are now down to 6 as we get closer and closer to the finale. The show started off with a futuristic Hip Hop routine and some wise words from Nigel encouraging young people to vote. Two dancers from the Los Angeles Ballet performed a beautiful Pas de deux, and LL Cool J was the musical guest.

The bottom two guys were, unexpectedly to our Dance bloggers, Will and Twitch, and the girls were Comfort and Courtney.

SYTYCD Blog #18: The Top 8!

SYTYCD Blog

We are back for another week of So You Think You Can Dance? with the Top 8 dancers. I, Daphne Bellevue, am here, joined by my partner in crime, Julie Heart, and everyone's favorite funky fresh...um...Idol/Dance judge? Artie Funk!

Hey there Dance Fans, and of course Daphne and Artie!

What's up Jules? And welcome back, Artie!

'Sup, Daphne? Julie, girl, good to see you again.

judges_D2Y7720.jpg
Note to Tony Basil - Wilma Flintstone called. She wants her dress back.

"Oh, Mickey, you're so fine! You're so fine, you blow my mind! Hey, Mickey!" If you know that song...you know our guest judge tonight, Toni Basil!

Sorry, ladies, but that "Number One" has faded and she's now more like "Number Two" at this point. Psshh. Toni Basil. Asking me to respect her is a pretty tall order, regardless of inspiring the lovely Miss Daphne to take up a lifelong fascination with the art of dance. Hey, Mickey! Get a job! Ugh. But hopefully I'll be able to ignore her for the night.

SYTYCD Blog #17 - From 10 Down to 8

SYTYCD Blog

We lost another two dancers, leaving us with eight. The show started out with a Bollywood number from Nakul Dev Mahajan and an announcement that the show has received four Emmy nominations this year. We also had a girls’ group contemporary number from Mia Michaels, and a guys’ group Broadway number choreographed by none other than Nigel Lythgoe. The bottom four came as no surprise with Comfort, Kherington, Mark, and Gev receiving the lowest number of votes. In the end it was Kherington and Gev who America decided to send home.

Contestants 8

Well, it was a shocker tonight. Losing Kherington and Gev doesn’t really sit well with me. Gev did not deserve to go home what-so-ever. I don’t feel like Mark performed well last night, where as I found no fault with Gev. As for Kherington, well, based on last night alone, she deserved to leave. But based on the entire season, she was a better dancer than Comfort. But I am happy for Comfort, she came back by a stroke of luck and managed to win her way into another week on the show. I don’t believe it will last long though. I think her and Mark will be out the door next week. Yes, perhaps I am jumping to conclusions, but they are definitely the weakest of the dancers left. But I suppose we will find that out next week.

I really liked that they did another Bollywood type dance to start off the show. I enjoyed the other two group numbers choreographed by Mia Michaels and Nigel Lythgoe for the final five guys and girls, but I liked Mia’s routine better, it was very emotional. The guy’s routine was fun, but I didn’t really feel anything for it. The bottom two girls and guys was predictably Comfort and Kherington and Mark and Gev, but I was very surprised to see who went home. I think of all her solos she’s ever done (and it’s been a lot) I think this was Comfort’s best, but I still expected her to go home. Seeing Kherington dance her solo without much makeup really made me see how pretty she really is. Based solely on last night’s dancing I suppose Kherington was worse, but if she had gone up against Jessica instead of Comfort, she’d still be standing. Gev was also a big surprise; I really loved him as the underdog with great b-boy skills. He may have been carried a bit by his partners Courtney and Chelsie, but he still held his own, especially in some very impressive solos. Not that I wanted to see Mark leave, I just expected it, he’s not as likeable as Gev or the other guys.

Was not surprised either that all four were in the bottom. Comfort was voted off the week before, but this week she did pull off a great hip hop number with Twitch. The voters did speak and unfortunately, Gev was not voted for as much as everyone else. Kherington was definitely one of the dancers who messed up and broke the dance laws last night. Even though they did a great many number of performances throughout the beginning of the show, Daphne, some of these voters don't see the whole show, so they base it off of what they saw last night. Justice was served and once again we are a step closer to a winner this season. Once again this is Sgt. Tango on SYTYCD Blog, over and out!

SYTYCD Blog #16: Hollywood Top 10 Comfort is Back in!

SYTYCD Blog

Well this week is full of changes. First off we let all you Dance Fans know earlier this week to watch for the switch-a-roo when it came to Comfort and Jessica, so that shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise. This week also brings new partners for all the Top 10, and they’ll be doing solos as well. This week is all about the votes to keep individuals in the game, and we’ll be seeing a few new dances we’ve never seen before.

We also have a new judge on the panel tonight, Lil’ C joins Nigel and Mary, while we are once again joined by Sgt. Tango. I hope you’ll be an officer and a gentleman tonight.

Yes I am here to give my best on these dancers. Dont' worry, there are some really good dancers now. But it's up to the viewers now who wins!

SYTYCD Blog #15 - From 12 Down to the TOP TEN!!!

SYTYCD Blog

We’re down to the Top 10 dancers. These are the lucky ones that will be going on the road around the country. We started off the show with a Hip Hop routine choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha. Nigel updated us about the battle challenge. Phillip Chbeeb has agreed to battle Robert Muraine in the finale, so that should be interesting. We also had a performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (as if we don’t get to see enough guys dance with their shirts off already) and Katy Perry sang her hit “I Kissed a Girl”.

The bottom three consisted of Comfort and Thayne, Jessica and Will, and Kherington and Twitch. Comfort and Thayne were the couple that the judges decided would leave.

Top Ten

I would like to start off by saying that the fact that we will be getting a dance off between Robert Murain and Phillip Chbeeb during the finale is great! I am excited for that one. Onto the show, we had absolutely no surprises tonight. This was easily one of the most predictable shows so far this year. It is sad to see Comfort and Thayne go, but it was most definitely their time. I agree with Nigel saying he would have rather lost two girls and no guys tonight, because Thayne is a better dancer than Jessica, by far. But as the rules go, we had to say goodbye to someone. Unfortunately that had to be Thayne and Comfort.

Yeah we totally predicted the bottom three without much effort last night. And if was obvious before anyone did their solos that it was about time for Comfort and Thayne to make their departures. Comfort really through a lot of energy into her solo dance, but there wasn’t anything about it that blew me away. Twitch did a Hip Hop routine for his solo too, but it was amazing with the creativity and expression he gave to it. Thayne always seems to come alive with his solos, but his paired dances never seem quite right and that’s why he keeps ending up in the bottom three. His solo wasn’t bad by any means, but unfortunately when compared to Will and Twitch he couldn’t stand up.

Man... I guess you ladies can read this show like a book, huh? But then again, even I thought it was pretty obvious who was probably going home this week. But from here on in I think things will be a bit less predictable. Well... check that. For the girls, after Jessica hits the bricks, it's gonna be really tight. It's already tight for the guys, because, as Daphne said, Thayne was a better dancer than Jessica, but it turned out that he took the hit for the guys this week. So, I guess that's all I have to add from the "Outsider's POV" for this week on SYTYCD. I had fun again, and maybe I'll show my mullet again here on the blog with you two lovelies. But for now, Artie's outta here. Peace, dudes.

SYTYCD Blog #14: Hollywood Top 12 - Julie is Back!

SYTYCD Blog

Hey Daphne...so I read the Blog from last week...you two were def playing nice alright

JULIE HEART! How dare you leave me alone with CLYDE!

You seemed to get along just fiiiine without me

Yeah...uh-huh. Last week totally wasn't the most painful moment of my life or anything.

Yeah right, OK. You guys were reminising about the old days and seemed to really enjoy eachother's company...maybe even a little too much...there was a lot of chit chat...and not a lot of dance chat

I tried...Dance, and not Clyde, is my thing. Clyde is the one who decided to embarrass me, and make a fool out of himself. I'd much rather talk about dance. So how about we get to it?

Yes I do agree. This week we're down to six couples and the top few are neck and neck. I think there's still room to ween out a couple of less than impressive dancers, but we're getting down to the nitty gritty. Mia Michaels is joining the judging table, and we're joined by Artie Funk.

Hey hey hey! Artie's in the house with some lovely ladies! I'm ready to watch some DANCIN'!! Let's get to it!!!

SYTYCD Blog #13: 12 Dancers, Daphne & Clyde!

SYTYCD Blog

After a long, holiday weekend...the SYTYCD Blog is BACK! Daphne and Clyde are here to comment on the loss of two more dancers, leaving us with just twelve. The show started out with a Tyce Diorio Broadway group number. We had a performance from the unbelievable Robert Muraine, and One Republic performed their song "Say (All I Need)". The bottom three consisted of Kourtni and Matt, Courtney and Gev, and Comfort and Thayne. In the end Kourtni and Matt packed their bags and went home.

Dance%20Top%2012.jpg

Robert Muraine...Every time I see this guy I sit there, with my hand over my mouth saying "This guy is insane!" "SO AWESOME!" I am so glad he returned, and I like Nigel's idea of a dance off between him and Phillip Chbeeb. That would be the event of the summer! As for the bottom 3, I was very upset to find Courtney and Gev in there, but very happy that they were safe in the end. I completely agreed with the judges decision (once again) of Kourtni and Matt. I am happy to know that Kourtni did receive Nigel's vote in the end, because she really is an extraordinary dancer. I really does hurt to see these people go now. We have unbelievably talented people in this competition and I hope every one of them succeeds in the world of dance.

Well, the 3 couples in the bottom were clearly weak. Kourtni and Matt, as I said the other night, are pretty much the epitome of annoying, and sum up everything that annoys me about dancers and about this bloody show. So, I certainly won't miss them. It was fun sitting in with Daphne and bickering for a while, but I think we can all breathe a sigh of relief that our friend Julie Heart will be back this week...along with some other guest blogger who isn't me. But, who knows? Maybe I'll pop up again sometime before the end of the season...

SYTYCD Blog #12: Daphne & Clyde All Alone...

SYTYCD Blog

Hey, Dance fans. I have to admit, I'm starting to get a little worried...Julie's really late, and I have no idea if she lined up a guest blogger for tonight. I might have to do this all by myse --

Well, well, well...

Oh, no.

Oh, yes, Daph. I'm back, and it looks like it's just you and me, this week.

Clyde, I don't know if I can do this...

= BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP BOOP...BEEP-BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP! =

You still haven't changed your ringtone from "Funkytown?"

Look, I'm not good with cell phones. Okay?!

= BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP BOOP...BEEP-BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP! =

Besides...it's kind of a catchy song. Hold on, it's a voice message from Julie.

Fine...but turn on speakerphone.

= BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP BOOP...BEEP-BEEP-BEEP BOOP BOOP! =

I don't really...know...

(SIGH.) Give it to me.

Julie%20Via%20Phone%20New%20Pic.jpg
Hey, Clyde...sorry to no-show, but I'm REALLY not feeling well. I'm gonna' have to sit this one out this week, but I'm sure you and Daphne will be fine. Play nice...but not TOO nice, heee hee...(COUGH-HAAAAAAACK-COUGH!!!)...sorry. That was nasty. And, Daphne...you make sure you keep him in line, and keep the convo on dancing. Without even watching the show…I’m predicting the girl to leave as either Jessica or Comfort, and the guys as either Thayne or Matt. Try to have fun without me! I know it'll be hard, but you'll make it! I'll talk to you both (COOOOOOOUGHHHH!!!) later. Ugh.

No reason to worry about keeping you in line...I'm a big girl, and I'm not afraid of little old Clyde.

Oh, you have no need to be afraid. This'll be fun - just the two of us, like back in the old days.

Sure you're going to STAY the entire time, and not RUN OFF on me before the show's over?

Daphne, come on. That was years ago, and I know I was a jerk. Let's just get on with the show, and we can hash out the unresolved issues later?

Heh...fine, tough guy. Let's get started...we have two guest judges Tabitha and Napoleon. And, Clyde, you know what TWICE the guest judges means, right?

No, Daphne. Please, enlighten me.

Twice the dancing!

Oh, joy. I'd have to be here THIS week...

Well, it's actually a GOOD thing. I thought you'd be excited.

How so?

With each of the couples dancing twice tonight, this show is going to move fast!

Well, there's a win for everyone!

SYTYCD Blog #11 From 16 Down to 14

SYTYCD Blog

Elimination night once again, and two more dancers leave the compeition bringing us to the Top 14 dancers. The show started off with an intriguing Mia Michaels routine that was a creepy combo of magicians and their ragdolls. We also were treated to the dance group Quest with former SYTYCD contestants Hok and Dominic. Season seven Idol winner Jordin Sparks sang “One Step at a Time”, and we saw solos from the bottom 3 pairs; Chelsea and Thayne, Comfort and Chris, and Kourtni and Matt. All three couples were in the bottom three for the second time, but it was Chelsea and Chris who were sent home.

Top 14

Well I was 2 for three in my couple predictions, I expected to see Chelsea and Thayne and Comfort and Chris in the bottom three, but I was a little surprised to see Kourtni and Matt. They did a great job last night, but I’m not sure if America understood their dance, and I don’t know if they have the fan base being in the bottom three again. It didn’t matter though, because the judges kept them around after their solos and broke up the other two pairs. I honestly wasn’t even paying attention during Chelsea’s solo, which in hindsight seems fitting because America obviously isn’t paying much attention to her either, which is a shame because she started off so strongly. Chris I’m happy to see go because he was holding Comfort back, but I wonder if Comfort will hold Thayne back as a partner.

Can I say that the opening number was a bit creepy? The guest dance team “Quest” (with our dear friends Dominic and Hok) was very entertaining. And Jordon Sparks was lovely (as usual). So Kourtni and Matt being in the bottom 3 isn’t a huge surprise, but not what I expected. Those two had a great night Wednesday, but so did just about everyone else. After the solos, I feel confident in saying that all 6 dancers in danger are AMAZING at what they do. I love Chelsea, so it is sad to see her go, but I think that was the right choice the judges made. As for Chris, he was dragging Comfort down every week, and I am glad that she now has Thayne for a partner. Chris is great at what he does, but that is all that he is great at. I am looking forward to seeing Comfort and Thayne together next week. The only problem is that now that Chris is gone, I might feel a little pain after every elimination round, because I don’t think there is one person left on this show who hasn’t made me love them. It will be interesting. This show is most definitely turning out better than Idol.

Yes I was a bit surprised too that Matt and Kourtni got pushed into the bottom three holding cell. But then again, Matt was a little stiff and the dance was less desirable than the others were, who were not pushed into the holding cell. When the judges picked Chris I was happy someone paid for that awful performace! My ears are still ringing from it! Chelsea too had one of the worst performances! The solo just didn't cut it for me either! These dancers better step it up, or I will be back to set them straight! This is Sgt. Tango over and out.

SYTYCD Blog #9 - From 18 Down to 16

SYTYCD Blog

Another two dancers had to go tonight, leaving us with 16 dancers on SYTYCD. This week the dancers hit the stage for their second time trying to impress the judges, and more importantly America. We started out the show with a hip hop number from Shane Sparks. We also had two performances, one from a flamenco dancer, and another from Flo Rider.

The bottom three ended up being Chelsea and Thayne, Susie and Marquis, and Comfort and Chris. In the end Susie and Marquis were sent home.

TOP 16

It looks like Daphne and I hit the nail on the head with this one. We both called all three couples of Susie and Marquis, Comfort and Chris, and Chelsea and Thayne as being in the bottom three, AND predicted the two going home of Susie and Marquis. I guess we had to have some kind of comeback after several wrong choices last week. Seeing the SYTYCD group number reminded me of how horrible the Idol group numbers were…Shane Sparks put together an awesome dance for the dancers, and Comfort was so lucky that Shane was the choreographer, because her performance in the dance helped in keeping her safe. Chelsea’s solo was great and kept her in as well, but “hot for teacher” Susie looked like a hot mess, and I wasn’t surprised or upset to lose her.

The guys on the other hand were pretty neck and neck with their solos. Marquis really threw everything he had at his chance, but the judges said that he was all tricks and not enough dance –which I feel was a bit of a cop out.

DancerX.jpgAmerica disappoints Dancer X by letting Broadway continue to go unpunished, but the chosen bottom three are extremely fair choices. Dancer X suspects that Chris was allowed to remain on purely as a comic foil. What’s he going to do next week, clog dancing?

Well no surprises tonight! I was very happy with the results this week. Thanks America for making me happy this time. Susie and Marquis most definitely deserved to go home tonight. I think sending anyone else home would have been a crime. Well, I don’t think I would have shed any tears over the loss of Chris. But now that Susie is gone, who am I going to hate? Perhaps no one, or maybe Chris, unless he can either get his act together, or just stays away from the krumping.

SYTYCD Blog #8 - Hollywood Top 18

SYTYCD Blog

Welcome to the blog, Dance fans! Julie Heart, here, for another week of great moves and surprises!

And, as always, I'm Daphne Bellevue. So, speaking of surprises, we have an...interesting new guest panelist sitting in with us this week. But don't judge this book by its cover.

Yeah, Dancer X is def serious about dance. X, why don't you tell our fans a little about yourself.

DancerX.jpgDancer X comes from a long line of Dancers. Capital D Dancers. Dancer X is all about passion and substance and above all, being contemporary. Dancer X is not here to see historical drama. Dance lives, my dears. Those who attempt to entertain Dancer X with sap and fluff shall be sent packing, be assured. But by the same token, Dancer X will not abide churlishness. Dance should be beauty, above all else.

Alright, welcome aboard! Let's get this thing going

Word, Julie.

Mia Michaels is joining the judging panel tonight, she always has some love for the contestants

and Banoodles?

Which means insane apprently?

SYTYCD Blog #7 - From 20 Down to 18

SYTYCD Blog

The Top 20 is now down to 18 as one guy and one girl take their final bow on SYTYCD. This week contestants had their first chance to dance with their partners and for better or worse they tackled routines from Hip Hop to the Waltz and everything in between. Wade Robson had an interesting group routine where the dancers kidnapped Nigel and we saw performances from a couple of Poppers and the Pussy Cat Dolls.

The bottom three couples were Kortni and Matt, Rayven and Jaime, and Jessica and Will-with Rayven and Jaime heading home.

18 Dancers Left

I can admit when I’m wrong, and I was wrong all around for this bottom three. I wasn’t surprised to see Kortni and Matt take a hit after their Jazz routine; it was a little stiff. Rayven and Jaime had the unenviable first spot and that may have helped in putting them in the bottom three, but Nigel def nailed it saying people only really remembered Jaime getting his pants pulled down. Jessica and Will however was a surprise, Will is a fantastic dancer and Jessica has her moments-I especially didn’t think they’d be bottom three material after the judges loved all over them with their Tango routine. I didn’t think it was the strongest routine, but def not the bottom 3 of the night. Rayven didn’t impress me with her solo and neither did Jaime, so I think the judges were right with what they had to work with.

Well, I can honestly say that this bottom 3 is a shock. I may have called Kourtni and Matt to be in the bottom three, but that doesn’t mean I’d like that. I was beyond shocked with Will and Jessica being in the bottom 3. I think that their tango was one of the four hottest numbers of the night for me. And Jamie and Rayven were just a lot of fun, but I am afraid dancing first was their main downfall. So this was one big surprise tonight. While I think Rayven and Jamie were not the two who should have been sent home overall, I do think that out of the dancer in the bottom 3, I think the judges made the best choices on who to send home. But I do need to say to you, come on America! Don’t make So You Think You Can Dance another disaster like you did with Idol for me. So the highlight of tonight was the opening number. It was a great routine, and I love that they brought Nigel in on it. That may be the closest we ever get to seeing Nigel dance.

SYTYCD Blog #6 - Hollywood Top 20

SYTYCD Blog

Well, the time has finally come for us to hit that big stage in Hollywood, and start the competition portion of the show. Tonight we have our dear friend, that wild and crazy idol expert, Artie Funk, joining us. What is up Funkster?

You know... I'm just doin' my thang, Daph-Punk. Actually...I'm doin' something that NOT my thang: watching SYTYCD! I've never seen this show in my life, but when Mizz Hart asked me to stop by and chime in, I couldn't break my Hart. But then...when she mentioned that you'd be around, Daphne, you KNOW I couldn't say no! Good to see you again, chica. Miss me?

I wouldn't say I've missed you, Funky Winkerbean, but it's cool to know that my siren song can still draw you in... Plus it seems fitting that you and I reunite in Hollywood, doesn't it?

Yeah, baby! You know it! Full circle, right? Anyways... I have no idea what's going on with this Dance-Off, but I'm still stoked to get this party started, dawg!

Wait a second! You two know each other, too? First Collins and now ARTIE?? Wow. I need time to process this. But in the meantime, don’t worry Mr. Funk, we know dancing isn't really your thang, so we’ll go easy on you. Dan Karaty was the guest judge on SYTYCD to join Mary and Nigel on the judging panel.

SYTYCD Blog #5: Vegas! We've Got a Top 20!

SYTYCD Blog

Well it's been a fun couple weeks, but now it's time to get down to business in Vegas. We've got over 200 dancers in Sin City to battle it out for the top 20 spots.

WOOOOO!!!! Vegas! I am so ready for tonight.

SYTYCD Blog #4 - Wisconsin and Milwaukee

SYTYCD Blog

Tonight we head off to the Great state of Wisconsin, and hit Brew City, Milwaukee, the home of the greats like the Fonz, Lavern and Shirley. But before the audition process starts, we are going to look back at a few great auditions we didn't get to see from other cities

Sounds good to me, I love doing the look back when we have good dancers to check out, I never get enough of the ones that come to impress…it’s the “dancers” that are just trying to make it on TV that annoy me. First up is Michael Kim, he came back from season 2 where he got to vegas but salsa sent him home. This year he brought back some great popping and locking

All Poppers take notes. This is what it is all about. The way his body snaps and pops is the way it should be done. He was fantastic, so crisp and clean in his movements. Amazing.

SYTYCD Blog #3 - Clyde's Here for Charleston (But NOT D.C.)!

SYTYCD Blog

The audition process continues on the East Coast with Washington D.C. and Charleston South Carolina. We’ve had some big talent come out of the Charleston auditions…like Heidi and Travis from two years ago. Let’s see if the city still has some talent on tap…Tice Diorio joins the judging table, and Clyde makes a comeback to the FOX43 blogging world!

I suppose I do. How did you talk me into this?

Good to see you, too, Clyde.

Sorry, where are my manners? Daphne, great to see you again. It’s been a while, love the hat. Very red.

You mean you HAD manners at some point?!

Ho-ho-ho. Sharp as ever, Julie. I think enough time has passed that I’m ready to come out of hiding and step back into a world that would have David Cook as an American Idol. I’m not over it, but I’m just kind of accepted the fact and am trying to move on with professional help.

About time you got professional help! But seriously, we invited my fellow FOX43 Idol Expert Clyde Collins to join us for a trip to Charleston, a place that holds a special place in his otherwise cold, black heart.

It's true. Charleston is one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a lovely city, and I’m happy to be joining the lovely ladies of the SYTYCD Blog in giving our thoughts on the try-outs. I have to be honest, though…I have NEVER watched this show, until tonight. I don’t know anything about it, so I’m going to have to figure it out as I go along. Not my kind of show, you know. But let’s give it a go.

We'll take it easy on you...THIS time.

I'm a quick study, don't worry.

Heh, always were. Well, starting out in Charleston is 18 year old Sheila Kaiser, who is putting school on hold for this dance opportunity. She has a wonderful personality, is having fun on the floor, and moves wonderfully. She has a lot going for her in many ways, including a ticket to Vegas. Hope her dad will be proud!

SYTYCD Blog #2 - Utah and Texas

SYTYCD Blog

So You Think You Can Dance is back for its second night of auditions in Dallas Texas, and Salt Lake City Utah. Salt Lake is up first, and i think some of us know that Utah is packed with talent, at least of the singing kind. Let's see about the dancing kind...

Yeah, i'm excited to see what kind of dancers we're gonna see from Utah...that's where Aarchie's from

SYTYCD Blog #1 - Lighting the Pilot

SYTYCD Blog

Season 4 of So You Think You Can Dance started off with some crazy competition from the popping, locking, bboying, and of course contemporary and couples. Last year Sabra became the first girl to win the competition, and she was up against some very talented fellas. Now that Idol is over Daphne Bellevue is joining me to review what's going on in the dancing world. We'll be here each week with critiques and compliments for the dancers and periodically we'll be joined by a guest judge to throw in their own feedback. So unfortunately you haven't seen the last of Clyde and Artie. Well without further ado...here's Daphne.
