The big stack is a beautiful thing

I held off posting Rosenbloom's Friday poker column until today because I wanted to leave the Palm Beach Kennel up as the lead item on this blog for as long as possible. If you went there and played the event, let me know.

Meanwhile, it's interesting hearing how David Pham played his big stack.

In other news, Maya Bell from our sister paper analyzes what the Miami-Dade slots vote means to Broward and the rest of the state.

Later this week on Action: Linked progressives come to Mardi Gras (anyone play them, have any thoughts?) and a report on the $5 and $25 games at Dania Jai-Alai.

We went to Dania Jai-alai last Mon., but left without even playing. As much as I used to love jai-alai, I can't stand the place anymore. My husband said the only thing missing were some crack dealers and users, the place is dingy and dirty. I think it's long overdue for Boyd gaming to get off of their butts and either sell the place or remodel.

Is there a reason why they just can't do some minor remodeling and throw the slots in? I really would hate to see us lose jai-alai in Broward.

As for the jai-alai poker. We went for the Monday tourney and every employee seemed very disinterested. The guy signing players up, couldn't even count how many were entered, nor answer a simple question. Sorry, but I haven't heard of buying an add-on BEFORE the tourney and ONLY BEFORE the tourney.

So we decided to wait and see how many would enter and in the mean time, I read the sign that says $20 buy-in for the table games. I even questioned the hostess, who barely spoke English about the buy-in and shes says yes $20.

So for killing time and one seat available I sit down and put $20 on the table. After a couple of minutes the manager comes over and says "You can't play with $20". Real huffy and nasty, while I'm sitting there waiting to play. So I said but your sign and the hostess........, he proceeds to bring me some stupid flyer from the stack of flyers on a table to show me the buy-in. To which I told him, I was sorry for not having read every last stinkin' flyer on a table.

So we left. Adios jai-alai poker and what a stellar way to impress new players.

Now mind you, I don't have a problem with a bigger buy-in and $20 seemed cheap - but I don't need the attitude or to be made to look like an idiot.
