Poker: Diving into the deep end
Taking my game or lack of to the next level is a goal of mine this year.
Slots have been my game of choice and source of enjoyment. Yet, I don’t feel challenged. Slots can be a mindless game without strategy. Do you agree?
So this year I want to dive into the deep end of the pool: Poker.
Fear races through my veins at the thought of sitting at the poker tables. My fear is on multiple levels: 1) No idea what any of the numbers or symbols mean; 2) No clue what the game is about; 3) Playing against the dealer and others; and 4) Not knowing if I can even play with my self-imposed $50 budget?
Can anyone suggest a way for me to dive in with a life vest without drowning?

I was nervous too the first time I played live poker. But there really is nothing to be afraid of.
Your best bet is to have someone with a little experience deal you a few practice hands before you go and explain the rules, some basic strategy, the mechanics, and table etiquette.
The low limit games are friendly. And if you play with a little bit of strategy $50 can go a long ways.

By the way, Taimy, I never could figure out what game they're playing in this file art.
Does anyone know a game where the player holds three cards?

You need to purchase a good book, read and practice a bit to learn strategy. Otherwise, you will be an easy mark for better players. In order to win gambling, some effort and study is required.
I suggest "Winning Low-Limit Hold Em" by Lee Jones.
