Hard Rock, World Series and Isle poker tournaments: Which will you play?
Our John Holland wrote about the upcoming tournament at the Hard Rock, which I blogged about below.
Meanwhile, the Isle is having its Florida State Poker Championships later this month, and players from here are also headed out to Las Vegas for the World Series of Poker events.
I'm gathering thoughts of what people think of the tournaments and which ones they'll likely play in, so if you're playing in one, how about a quick response to this post telling me what attracts you to one of the tournaments over another? Cash payout? Chance of playing against weaker players and making money? Chance of playing against better players to up your game? The party? Thanks.

Players want these types of tournaments as they usually start with much larger chip stacks that afford good players a lot more play. The "Blind" schedules are usually much longer as well (around 45 mins vs. 15 or 20).
Most of the other Multi Table Tournaments (MTTs) are so "Short Stacked" that you are probably "All-IN" the first time you get a decent hand. That's not really Poker, more like Bingo or playing the lottery.
I enjoy playing at both of these card rooms and, while S. Florida will never be like Vegas, they are a fair representation. Just don't expect to see Phil Ivey playing down here anytime soon.

ok, I can't read it because our web blocks it, but from the short blurb my response is this .... are you kidding ? is it even a comparison worth making ? Hard Rock Hollywood charity tournament, Pompano Isle State Championship, or the World Series of Poker in Vegas ? c'mon, that's like choosing between Morton's Steakhouse or McDonalds - like BMW or Datsun - like Scarlett Johanssen or Bridget Nielsen ... or better said, picking up Scarllet Johanssen in your BMW to Morton's Steakhouse OR picking up Bridget Nielsen in your Datsun and going to Mickey D's.

Stcsix: Great point about the short-stacked tournaments, which really cut into playing poker. And, yes, playing poker here is like Single-A baseball. (But if you're a Double-A player, maybe you make some money...?)
To: Jon Gold, I like McDonald's. OK, presuming that I posed the question poorly, still give me the answer: what attracts you to play in the particular tournament you're playing in?
To all: Because we're a local paper, I'm listing some details on the two here and the WSOP in Friday's Showtime. You can always read more, and probably better, about the WSOP in the poker magazines; but maybe, maybe I have something local that you don't know. Let me know what you think after you see it.
