Five Heisman winners pose together at Hard Rock
Talk about your Mount Rushmore of college football: Here are five college football Heisman winners who gathered at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for a charity event.
They are: Johnny Rodgers (left), Andre Ware, Tony Dorsett, Mike Rozier and Gino Torretta. (Photo by Tom Craig at the Seminole Hard Rock)
Torretta hosted his “Celebrity Charity Blue Tee Weekend” last week to raise money for ALS Research.
The events consisted of a private party in the Plum Lounge at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino, a celebrity charity poker tournament at the Poker Room in Seminole Paradise and a celebrity charity golf tournament at Jacaranda Country Club in Plantation.
NICK SORTAL began playing 3-card "gut" and "Indian poker" on high school band trips, moved on to "night baseball" and "pass the trash" during a Dr. Pepper-infused midnight game in the 1980s at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and now play in a regular neighborhood Hold 'Em game in Plantation. I have been given the assignment of writing about the gambling life in South Florida casinos for the Sun-Sentinel...which means sitting around watching poker on TV now counts as research.
