Patrick Maynard wins Day Two event at Palm Beach Kennel
Patrick Maynard of Lake Worth prevailed in the second event of the Palm Beach Poker Classic, winning the six-handed tournament Tuesday.
That puts him third in the "Player of the Year" leader board. John Keywegt, who won Monday's hold 'em event, got no points Tuesday but still leads with 513.85 points. Monday runner-up Larry Hawkins, also pointless on Tuesday, is second, with 363.35, then comes Maynard, with 344.88.
The tournament drew 141 players, and paid $2,405 for first place.
Today is a $100 H.O.R.S.E. event, with a $10,000 guarantee no-limit with rebuys ($30 with $10 rebuys) on Thursday, a $20,000 guarantee no-limit ($200) on Friday and the main event, a $50,000 guarantee ($500 entry) on Saturday and possibly Sunday.
NICK SORTAL began playing 3-card "gut" and "Indian poker" on high school band trips, moved on to "night baseball" and "pass the trash" during a Dr. Pepper-infused midnight game in the 1980s at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and now play in a regular neighborhood Hold 'Em game in Plantation. I have been given the assignment of writing about the gambling life in South Florida casinos for the Sun-Sentinel...which means sitting around watching poker on TV now counts as research.
