Smoking and casinos: Need to hear from folks wearing surgical masks
So I have a story pretty much put together about smoking and South Florida casinos, explaining which ones have which rules, etc. I included the detail that at some of the smoking casinos, occasionally there are people who play in surgical masks. It's about 2-3 paragraphs in a 20-paragraphs story.
But it brings up the question: Why?
I think I know -- they like the casino, etc. -- but I'd rather hear it from their lips. And it's not really a thing where I'm going to go up to some casino patron and stick a notebook in their face. I just need to answer the question for my article.
So, I need you, dear readers: If you have a contact with a slot player who does this, could you coax them into giving me a quote? E-mail me at nsortal@sun-sentinel.com or call 954-356-4725. Story is set to run pretty soon in the paper.
NICK SORTAL began playing 3-card "gut" and "Indian poker" on high school band trips, moved on to "night baseball" and "pass the trash" during a Dr. Pepper-infused midnight game in the 1980s at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and now play in a regular neighborhood Hold 'Em game in Plantation. I have been given the assignment of writing about the gambling life in South Florida casinos for the Sun-Sentinel...which means sitting around watching poker on TV now counts as research.
