Christmas double: Powerball ($125M), Lotto ($50M) hit
It's becoming a Christmas tradition for Powerball: Someone has a very happy holiday.
Powerball, the lottery game played in 42 states, produced a single winner from Saturday night's drawing. Whoever bought a ticket, sold in Maryland, with the numbers 14-16-30-51-52 and a Powerball of 19 has won $125 million.
Last year, a New York couple that had been married for 30 years won $48 million on a Dec. 25 drawing.
Meanwhile, the Florida Lotto, which had been dry for three months produced one winner of $50 million. The numbers were 2-11-15-19-24-26, and the ticket was sold in Tallahassee.
It's the biggest Lotto score since April 2010.

NICK SORTAL began playing 3-card "gut" and "Indian poker" on high school band trips, moved on to "night baseball" and "pass the trash" during a Dr. Pepper-infused midnight game in the 1980s at the St. Louis Globe-Democrat, and now play in a regular neighborhood Hold 'Em game in Plantation. I have been given the assignment of writing about the gambling life in South Florida casinos for the Sun-Sentinel...which means sitting around watching poker on TV now counts as research.
