Magic City Casino will host the Bullseye Golf Contest benefiting Voices Against Brain Cancer on Jan. 14-15.

Participation is free and will take place Saturday from noon to 9 p.m.on the 14th and noon to 5 p.m. on the 15th.

Players will have the chance to win up to $15,000 in Free Play from Magic City Casino by participating in this event. Magic City Casino will also match any donations made to Voices Against Brain Cancer, as well as any free play won, up to $20,000.

Voices Against Brain Cancer was founded in memory of Gary Lichtenstein, who lost his battle with brain cancer on October 1, 2003, at the age of 24. Soon after his passing, his family created Voices Against Brain Cancer to raise money and awareness for the fight against this illness.

Continuing its tradition of giving away cars you don't normally see in a showroom, the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is offering up a Lotus each Thursday this month.

In the past, the Hard Rock has given away Maseratis, Ferraris and Bentleys.

“Seminole Hard Rock wants to continuously offer our players trending and exotic cars that keep them fascinated and coming back,” said Terri Lutz, director of retail marketing. “We felt that the Lotus does just that.”

Winners have a choice of the 2012 Lotus Evora (worth about $75,000) or the 2012 Elise (worth $50,000), although many players take a cash option, which is about two-thirds of the sticker price.

The Hard Rock, the only South Florida casino with a hotel, concert hall and shops, is constantly looking for “cutting edge” items with wow factor, Lutz said.

“We listen to our guests, understand their needs and please them by gravitating to items they normally won't purchase,” Lutz said.

Also this month, the Hollywood casino will give away $1,000 in free play every 30 minutes from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursdays. The grand prize drawing is at 8 p.m. and three participants will be picked. Each will receive an envelope; two are good for $1,000 in casino play, and the third is for the car.

Comedian Jimmie Walker and TV personality Michael Yo will help determine who’ll be chosen as “The Face of Classic,” the contest being conducted by the Seminole Casino Hollywood Classic.

Deadline for applying is July 23.

Walker is most recognized as the former “Dy-no-mite!” star of the 1970s CBS TV sitcom, Good Times. Today he tours the country up to 40 weeks a year doing stand-up at comedy clubs across America.

Michael Yo, who calls himself the “half-black brother with a Korean mother,” has been a celebrity correspondent for E! News since 2008 and is the afternoon drive host of Y100’s Michael Yo Show, while working at being a stand-up comic.

“Face of Classic” requires hopefuls to turn in completed applications at the Seminole Casino Hollywood Player’s Club no later than July 23.

Candidates chosen from the first round that was held on June 11 and 12 will return on July 30 and July 31 for a second interview. On Aug. 14, a second call-back of approximately 75 finalists will complete a mock photo shoot, a voice-over, and be further interviewed. The final round public event on Aug. 23 will consist of interviews by the judges with the top 10 finalists, and the “Face of Classic” winner will be chosen.

The winner will be involved in multiple TV, print, and billboard advertising photo shoots, attend all of the casino’s community and special events, co-host the majority of promotions on the property, perform all casino intercom announcements, conduct a radio publicity tour, host the casino’s Facebook account, post YouTube videos, and write daily tweets.

In addition to a guaranteed salary of $75,000, the winning job candidate will drive a new automobile with free gasoline; have a $6,000 wardrobe expense account; receive a $2,500 photo and video shoot portfolio; get free food for the year, a special parking space at the casino, and more. The nine other finalists will receive $1,000 in cash, $250 in free casino play, and a photo shoot portfolio they can use at their next job interview.

Applicants must be 21 years old, a U.S. citizen, have a valid driver’s license, have at least a high school education, and be able speak English fluently and clearly. Casino experience is not necessary.

The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood is marking the 40th anniversary of the Hard Rock Cafe with 40 days of guitar giveaways, a hotel package and a Monday food promotion.

The casino is billing it as "40 Days That Rock," and it's part of events worldwide commemorating the Hard Rock Cafe's 40th anniversary.

At 9:30 p.m. each night at the Hard Rock, one random slot player will be awarded a guitar signed by the group Foreigner. The promotion started Wednesday and runs through June 26. Winners must belong to the Hard Rock's player's club.

The Hollywood Hard Rock also is offering a three-day, two-night "Sleep like a Rock Star" hotel package for Sundays through Thursdays. It includes a $40 food credit to the Hard Rock Cafe, and a $40 food credit for either the Blue Plate, Council Oak or Beach Club. Patrons also receive two $40 spa credits at Body Rock Spa and Hard Rock Cafe 40th anniversary merchandise.

I know it's my paper, but it's a great coupon: The Seminole Casino Hollywood has a $25 free play sticker on the front of Friday's Sun-Sentinel.

Not "$25 if you play $25." Not "$25 for new members." Flat-out $25 in free play.

So I snagged my sticker this morning and made it to Classic -- the old bingo hall south of the Hard Rock, on the other side of Stirling Road -- by about 9:30 a.m. and collected.

The sticker is good from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Saturday or Sunday and is for slots only (no video poker, video blackjack, etc., which is fine because those games return 95 percent-plus as it is).

Do be prepared for a line, though; there were about 100 lined up by Friday, which took about 15 minutes.

How'd I do? Well, I played one of the lottery-based games, punching in my six-digit birthday, my wife's, son's and my mom's. Played 30 minutes and walked out with $20 of my $25.

Update: Well, Saturday I got an email from a reader upset that I didn't let people know quick enough, which is a semi-valid point. But the fact is, I didn't know about the coupon until I opened my paper Friday. Advertising and editorial are two different departments, but in this case, when there is something available to help the general gambler, it should be on this blog. Also, I heard there was a Calder coupon in Friday's Herald. Even though it's the Miami paper, I'll tell folks about that, too, if I know beforehand. After all, the goal here is to give people news that affects their what, how and where they gamble... In short: I'll do better next time.

Mardi Gras Casino is going back to Elvis this month.

It starts Sunday with the “That’s Alright Mama, Elvis Extravaganza” at 11 a.m. at the French Quarter Restaurant & Bar. Elvis Tribute artist Maurice Shep will serenade patrons with sounds such as “Love me Tender,” while other Elvis "tribute artists" (that's the casino's word, I guess "impersonators" is loaded?) stroll the casino and give away pink scarves to all the moms.

The buffet runs until 9 p.m. and is $23.95 per person, includes a carving station, omelet station, appetizer bar, desserts and $2 Mimosas and Bloody Marys.

Later that evening Elvis Tribute artist David Morin will perform in the casino at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Prince William is the focus the latest gimmick promotion at the Seminole Casino Coconut Creek.

The casino is pledging to give away $1 million to one person if the prince gets cold feet and is a no-show at the altar. (Obviously, GM Steve Bonner is not much of a romantic. Bonner's casino also has given away space flights and offered up cash if debris from a destroyed spy satellite hit a bull's-eye he painted on the casino roof.)

“We don’t know what the odds are because we can’t read his mind, but many a good man has turned and run the other way at the last minute,” Bonner said via a press release.

The casino is asking patrons to swipe their player’s club card any time from 8 a.m. on Thursday through 9:45 a.m. on Friday, to receive one entry to the "Left at the Royal Altar Million Dollar Giveaway."

But the gimmick actually does have some loot if form holds: "If Williams does decide to show up and go through the whole six hour ceremony, we’ll still give away $10,000 cash to one lucky winner at 10 a.m.," a casino press release says.

Calder Casino & Race Course is giving away a Subaru Outback this month.

Mardi Gras Casino has upgraded its player's club program, offering a greater variety of rewards and escalating the goodies for its most active players.

Until now, the casino, which first started slots in December 2006, allowed patrons to use their player's club points only for food discounts or comps.

"We met with some groups of players and simply asked them what they wanted," said Jaci Marx, director of marketing.

The new system will let players trade in their points for free slot machine play, Mardi Gras merchandise and special offers, as well as food discounts. Players have been exchanging their old cards for color-coded ones and the amenities are being added in the next few weeks, she said.

Players who gamble more often and higher amounts qualify for VIP parking and valet service, lounge privileges and free golf and spa excursions to South Florida venues.

Players who have 5,999 points or fewer in 2011 get a green card, 6,000-11,999 nets a green card, 12,000 to 29,999 a gold card and more than 30,000 a black card. Mardi Gras officials, like those at many other casinos, declined to say how much play warrants earning a point.

Mardi Gras placed existing players in tiers based on past play, Marx said, although the points to qualify for the next tier of the card only began accruing as of Jan. 1.

"The initial feedback has been that our players are very happy with the change," Marx said.

The new cards are called "Krewe Club" cards, a reference to the New Orleans Mardi Gras party scene.

Palm Beach Kennel Club will hold its annual Super Bowl Pooch Predictor Race Friday afternoon.

In the Super Bowl Pooch Predictor Race, one greyhound will sport the blanket of the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers while the other will represent NFC's Green Bay Packers.

They will compete on the 545-yard Royal Palm Course in an official schooling race.

Representing the Green Bay Packers and breaking from the one post will be Grandview Prep (Yahoo Omar - Flying Excorcist) while representing the Pittsburgh Steelers and starting from the eight box will be Mr Reliable (Switzler Jammin - WTD Daily News).

Both greyhounds compete for the track’s number one kennel, Rader Racing.

It will be the 12th official race at approximately 4 p.m.

The Palm Beach Kennel Club canines have correctly predicted ten of the last 14 Super Bowl champions, according to a press release.

In the 2009 Super Bowl Pooch Predictor race, the Arizona Cardinals Greyhound defeated the Steelers representative. The Steelers went on to win Super Bowl XLIII.

Palm Beach Kennel Club will end simulcasting on Super Sunday at approximately 6 p.m. The Poker Room will remain open, televising the big game and offering food and drink specials.

Palm Beach Kennel Club is owned by the Rooney family, who also own the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mardi Gras Casino is drawing a packed house five times a week for ... bingo.

Patrons often are lining up an hour early for the free eight-game bingo session, filling the 450-seat third floor at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays, 6 and 9 p.m. Wednesdays and 1 p.m. Fridays. Prizes range from $75 to a progressive blackout that starts at $1,000 and grows to a maximum of $5,000.

Jamie Lozano of Aventura (with friend Tony Garcia of Hallandale Beach on his left) said when there are two bingo sessions in the same day, he often stays for both, and eats dinner or plays the slot machines at Mardi Gras in between. He and about 10 others have become friends, he said, and have a few laughs while playing bingo.

"People here are just very friendly," he said.

In October, the casino began running bingo at the Dawg House, the casino's second-floor sports bar. But that venue, which seated only about 320, became so crowded the casino converted its third floor for bingo. (The casino originally put slots on the third floor, which overlooks the dog track, but closed down the slots last year.)

Any member of the casino's player's club can get one free bingo card. Extra bingo cards are awarded for every five player's club points earned on the day of the bingo games.

"We have a great time. The only thing that would be better about it would be if I won," said Diane Bass, of Lauderdale Lakes.

By state law, horse tracks and dog tracks can't operate for-profit bingo games. But the Seminole Indians can. For more than 30 years, the Seminole Casino Hollywood Classic has had daily bingo that requires buying cards.

Mardi Gras' neighbor, Gulfstream Park Racing & Casino in Hallandale Beach, has free Bingo at 5 and 9 p.m. Tuesdays. The Isle Casino & Racing Pompano Park has short-term runs of Bingo.

Mardi Gras Casino is running its "Cubes of Cash" promotion at 2, 6 and 8 p.m. Sundays in January. Entries are earned daily and if you match two squares you have a chance to win $20,000.

It also has its First and Goal Hot Seat promotion, giving away up to $500 cash every 30 minutes from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

Players can Scratch for Cash every Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. for a chance to win $5,000 cash.
