The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror
Think what you will of what “The Simpsons” has become in its latter years, the annual “Treehouse of Horror” episode, airing Sunday on Fox at 8 p.m., has remained appointment television.
This year’s episode includes three inspired segements, as well another timely political opener (I can’t be the only person who says, “Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.” Look it up people.)
More after the jump.
The first segment, “Untitled Robot Parody,” spoofs “The Transformers,” which is OK, but it leads into a far superior second segment, “How to Get Ahead in Dead-vertising” with it’s dead-on spoof of the opening of “Mad Men.”
That part has the oafish Homer going around killing celebrities while "Psycho Killer" plays in the background. It features some of the clever wit the show has been known for. (“Mister Simpson, you have quite a talent for killing celebrities.” “Well, I’m no drunk driver.”)
The final segment, “It’s the Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse,” puts the Simpsons characters in the classic “Peanuts” cartoon, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” complete with Vince Guaraldi’s wonderful score, the repetitive dancing and the muted fall colors. Charles Schulz would be proud. And so will be long-time “Simpsons” fans looking for a reminder of past glory.
