Jay-Z's version of Wonderwall

So Jay-Z opened his set at Nelson Mandela's birthday concert by sing-talking the Oasis hit "Wonderwall."

This to me seems an odd way to start the show -- he seems to forget some of the words, and he's sort-of playing a guitar, and really it's just Jay-Z sort-of singing along with Noel Gallagher's disembodied voice. You'd think Beyonce could have talked him out of his.

Then again, maybe I'm just grumpy that this song came out in 1995 when I was a junior in college, and it just hit me that 1995 was more than a decade ago.

For those of you eager for a nostalgia trip, here's the video for the original. And it still rocks as much as it did when I played it on the cassette deck in my Chevy Sprint.

The Internet: It's like your parents. It cares for you, feeds you, lets you sleep in its bed when you're awake at night... it's always there. Our solemn mission at "Thank you, Internet" is to give it a phone call once in a while, compliment it on its watercolor drawings and buy it birthday cards - metaphorically speaking, of course. Your job is to sit back and enjoy our frenzied attempts to celebrate said Internet, in all it's weirdness, utility and blatant stupidity. By the end of your visit, you too will be saying, "Thank you, Internet."
