Rosario Dawson and the Gemini Division

Are you watching this? You should.

Here's the first episode of Gemini Division, a new NBC show shot entirely for the Internet. Its format seems like one of those personal video testimonials, except with some special effects and drama and intrigue thrown in. They last about 5 minutes each, with Rosario Dawson moving the plot along and dropping clues.

Could people get used to this form of serial entertainment? 50 episodes are expected to be released. Lets hope they keep the drama up.

Watch the second episode at NBC.com.

No way. I nearly fell asleep watching it.

Gemini Division is more effective than Ambien.

Its so important for the interactive TV genre that Gemini Division puts on a good showing. This is the kind of innovative product that exploits the interactivity of the internet and changes the lean back viewing experience of traditional TV into something far more engaging. Its success would bring much needed attention to the indie interactive web scene.

Signing Rosario Dawson is a great choice, a sci-fi plot is a great choice, they've got a great storyteller in Brent Friedman, only thing I'm not so happy about is the staged release international (Gemini Division will be released first in the US then international by Sony). But I suspect the EFE team had a lot of breaking down walls to do in the deal making room as the vanguard.

The $1.75M budget is HUGE for the web TV world but my hope is that a nice chunk of that is allocated to marketing (and you can count Rosario’s paycheck in that) to bring attention to the nascent interactive web series genre … indies like ours (www.deletedthegame.com) will gladly ride this coat tail.

@Brian H - no way?! I liked it and I though Rosario Dawson was totally believable.

Oh, I'd love for this type of story to succeed. But the medium requires it to grab one's attention quickly and this fails on every level. I'd say you've got about two minutes on a Web short like this to win over viewers. This just doesn't do it for me.

And the "cliffhanger" at the end comes off to me as "meh." They're trying too hard.

"Diary" format, shaky cam, attempted "cliffhanger..." it's all gimmicks.

Great effort, bad execution in my opinion.

@Brian H - Fair enough. But that is the challenge for the genre that has its roots in the ARG (alternate reality game) world. Where I guess gamers learn early on that only part of the story is told in the video and the rest is online.

Can I invite you to give http://www.deletedthegame.com and see if we have got the mix a little more to your liking?

I still think G.D. is kickass ... but then I'm a fan of Rosario Dawson and Brent Friedman.

Thanks Andrew. I like it so far. I really liked what Electric Farm Entertainment did with Afterworld. I am hoping they develop out Gemini Division to its potential. A bit early to tell, but I definitely like what I have seen so far. Also, looking forward to the interactive experience starting next Friday.

At this point we have only seen ~2.5% of the content that is Gemini Division. 2/50=4% and that is just one platform. There will also be graphic novels, and they filmed an alternate parallel storyline for the interactive experience. It is definitely worth checking out more in depth.

I did a writeup on a pre screen event I was privileged to be a part of. Click my name if you are interested. Thanks again Andrew.

@Deleted: I have signed up. Now I just need the time to dig in.
