Fort Lauderdale Spring Break 1985

Watch This Now unearthed another Fort Lauderdale Spring Break 1985 off YouTube. It's amazing to see the crowds that packed A1A. It's not so amazing to see the guy juggling rocks.

Twenty-three years later, you got wonder where these Spring Breakers are now. What happened to the open-mouthed fellow watching the wet t-shirt contest at the 3:53 mark? What happened to the two dudes with the beer helmets? And what happens if their kids see this video?

So what do you prefer, Fort Lauderdale Beach now or Fort Lauderdale Beach circa 1985?

Growing up here in the 80's, as a young adult I LOVED going to spring break. However, now as a parent, I am glad that it isn't here! But, those were some great times!!!

I prefer today for the traffic, 1985 for the girls, and 1961 for the drink prices;-)

I think that it's a big mistake to not capitalize on the tourism like we did in the 80's. How many storefronts can you see boarded up or abandoned on A1A now? We are missing the boat and many bucks by not using what we have. Of course, our lovely Mayor Naugle didn't help any with his past comments, but c'mon...we need the tourists.

Why can't we have both? It was only one month out of the year. How many of those kids returned, etc. Was the last great hope for Fort Lauderdale growth. College Grads...instead of what we get now.

I still have a t-shirt from the Candy Store,..remember those t-shirt competitions involving water? "Awesome"!!

It was a sad day when the Candy Store closed. I loved going there every Sunday in March for the Belly Flop contest followed by the Teenie Weenie Bikini contest.

Skin to win, Baby! Skin to win!

And today Fort Lauderdale is a dying city.

I migrated from WV to Ft. Lauderdale for Spring Break 83/84/85. I still remember the wall that was erected in 1985 to keep the drunks from falling into the street and getting hit by cars. I think I still have a platic cup that says "I climbed the wall" from that year.

I enjoyed spring break in Ft Lauderdale and it will always be some fond but fuzzy memories. I remember hearing that the new hot spot was Daytona back then. The city of Daytona was catering to the spring breakers trying to lure them in and it worked. Add in the fact that the City of Ft Lauderdale was starting to crack down and push the spring breakers out. It's kind of weird to see the strip now, no Candy Store, Penrods or The Button. Those were good times for sure. Does anyone remember in the later years when they started towing cars in mass off the beach side of the strip after 11:00 PM.
