Top 10 political brawls from across the globe
American politics can certainly get ugly. This year's presidential election at times was petty, snarky, rude and downright nasty. But our elections and political machinations pale in comparison with the rest of the world, where politicians don't think twice about throwing a punch, a chair or a shoe to get their points across. Or a microphone stand. Or other politicians.
Regardless. In the interest of broadening WTN's horizons and culturalizing our readers to other... uh... cultures, I present to you the top 10 best political brawls from across the world.
We begin with...
#10 Ukraine is a wee-young country, compared to most of the others on this list. And as such, it has a little catching up to do on its political striking and grappling abilities. Still, this is a good first effort and I think I see some real promise. Kid's a contendah.
Hit the jump for the rest and the best!
#9 From Mexico, some good, UFC-style ground-and-pound in their Congress, all over a change in power a few years ago. Also look for the guy who appears to be crowd surfing in the beginning of this clip.
#8 Apparently the Nigerian House Speaker is a high roller. Sounds like a good enough excuse to start a political brawl to me.
#7 The boys in the Taiwan Legislature engage in some delightful mayhem for God-knows-what-reason. People are pushed. Shoes are thrown. Fun was had by all.
#6 The Korean Assembly erupts in a no-holds barred brawl, complete with old men poking other people with their canes, grown men pulling each others' hair and, best of all, a viciously hilarious telephone beating at about 3 minutes in.
#5 Poor Sudan. You come to negotiate peace with your neighbors and next thing you know, you're beaned in the face by a chair, Geraldo-style. You've gotta love the face of the TV newsman when the clip ends.
#4 Is this parliament or an Iggy and the Stooges concert? Indian politicians discuss a civil rights matter by senselessly beating each other and tossing microphone, chairs and TV monitors to punctuate their points.
#3 Czech this one out (yes, I'm clever). A "personal issue" is publicly worked out to the delight of all. Don't worry, "he deserves it," we are told after one man is unceremoniously slapped in the back of the head. If it were me being slapped, the old man would need a hip replacement when I got done with him.
#2 Not to be outdone by the guys, these gals in Taiwan know how to inflict maximum shame along with maximum pain. The initial victim's reaction is priceless.
And, #1, from Japan, proving that you just don't mess with a judo blackbelt if you want to avoid living the rest of your life in a wheelchair.
BONUS: Here's one last video underscoring how ludicrous it is to brawl over politics in any country. Can't we all get along?
