British researchers have developed a Formula Three race car with recycled materials, fruits and vegetables -- and powered it with a derivative of chocolate.

The car runs on a biodiesel derived from cocoa butter, the base oil in chocolate. Carrots are used in the steering wheel, potatoes in the mirrors, soybean oil in the seats, and flax and hemp in the bodywork.

The resin and composites that hold the whole thing together are come from recycled carbon fiber and bottles.

The Brits say their green car is the future of racing. But before the WorldFirst team can compete in Formula Three, the governing body would have to scrap its ban on bio-fuels.
