The greatest generation seem even more heroic with each passing year. And now, previously unseen footage of U.S. troops training for the D-Day landings sheds still more light on the young warriors who risked everything to destroy Hitler.
Amateur historian Tony Koorlander, who used to work for the British Broadcasting Corp., came across 38 reels in the National Archive in Baltimore, where they have lain undiscovered since the end of World War II.
Watching the young soldiers training in Devon in southwest England, you can't help but wonder how many made it through the June 6, 1944 landing alive.
Koorlander said: "If it was not for the training … we would not have won D-Day. Each picture and film has an amazing story to tell. I never dreamt it would be this big. It is like going back and living the experience. These people were unseen heroes and it has all been kept top secret for too long."
