Say hello to the New Media jerks among us

This video is close to my heart. Yes, I Twitter (@brianhaas), use Facebook, etc. But I can't believe the number of people who spout off on the latest NEXTGEN!!! or WEB 2.0!!! or whatever. It seems like some people have nothing better to do but talk out their rear-ends about the latest and greatest Web app that nobody heard of, cares about or will find useful.

Oh yeah, and many of these people are either dancing on newspapers' graves or shouting down from their dork-towers about how they know just how to save our industry.

(Thanks to @PhilipNowak for finding this treasure of a video.)

The trouble with Twitter

So, the Today show had a segment Thursday morning explaining Twitter to all the soccer moms out there.

Here's a snarkier cartoon explanation for why Twitter is so popular. (Best use of the Fail Whale ever)

Robot falls over during presentation

Finally, we've found the solution to the upcoming robot apocalypse.

We must humiliate the robots before their will strengthens enough to take over. The following video is a great start.

Canadian robot can detect perverts

My ongoing warnings about the upcoming robot apocalypse continues with perhaps the creepiest to date: a Candian android that feels pain and shoos away perverts.

Sorry to big fans of Cherry 2000 (are there any?), it doesn't look like our robot overlords will tolerate any cross-species hanky-panky.

Joe The Plumber and the Digital TV Transition

Yes, the election is over, but Joe the Plumber is still with us. He's got something important to say about the upcoming transition... to digital television.

I know this move from analog to digital is supposed to be a big deal, since I now hear about it as much as I heard about Joe the Plumber two months ago. (I continue to ignore these messages because I have cable, so I'm not affected.) But I think it's a bit of an exaggeration for Joe to say that the nation has never had a transition of this magnitude in the United States.

Just off the top of my head: The move from British rule to sovereign government. The abolition of slavery. Extending voting rights to all Americans. The end of the Cold War. Those are kinda significant, right?

Your iPhone as musical instrument

I don't have an iPhone -- just a cell phone -- so of course I was ignorant to this application that allows users to turn their phones into wind instruments.

It's pretty cool, but... if you're looking to play an instrument, why not just use a flute?

More creepy robots

OK, I'm starting to really be alarmed by this. Robots are clearly set to take over. They're already conditioning us to be terrified of them. Just look at the creepy "face robot" in this clip and you'll see what I mean.

New robotic legs look stupid, lewd

The purpose of these exoskeleton-style robotic leg supports, I'm told, is ultimately to help workers who have to stand or crouch for long hours. Supposedly the machines help distribute weight and relieve stressed workers' tired ole bones.

But the damn thing looks like a combination of the leg attachments from the game Portal and some bizarre groin-torturing device from the Saw series.

I've got an idea: how about you technology "experts" get to work on some DAMN FLYING CARS like I was promised 20 years ago in elementary school. Yeah, I'm bitter.

Search Engine Rap Battle: Google vs. MSN

Not many know this, but there's been a vicious back-alley war going on between search engine giants Google and MSN. The field of battle? Seedy clubs. Their weapons? Freestyle rap.

If only all wars could be settled with the mic. Who do you think won this one?

Close-up of that $999 iPhone app

You guys have heard about that ridiculously expensive iPhone App called "I am Rich?"

iamrich.jpg

It's just a picture of a gem and a 'mantra,' according to the creator.

Apparently eight people bought it before it was taken off the Apple server. Read about it here.

Here's a video with someone giving a guided tour of what the application for the curious.
And I have a feeling that the narrator did not purchase it, since he links to the hacked/free version.
