World air traffic over a 24-hour span

This one is pretty self-explanatory: The yellow dots are airplanes traveling throughout the world over a 24-hour span. Maybe I'm overly obsessed with maps and travel, but I found this to be fascinating. It's especially interesting to see how the middle of America gets abandoned at night.

Thanks to my co-worker Dan Scapusio for linking me out to this:

United Breaks Guitars

Here's a good way to get your consumer complaint handled: Make a viral video.

That's what Canadian musician Dave Carroll did after his guitar was broken by some United Airlines employees while he was changing planes in Chicago. Carroll went through a months-long ordeal to get it fixed, but never settled with the airline.

So Carroll made "United Breaks Guitars," which as of Thursday night had more than 700,000 views. That's in a matter of days. The Chicago Tribune ran a story Thursday. Now it's gone nationwide.

Right now, someone at United is really wishing they'd just given Carroll some travel vouchers.

All aboard for the world’s biggest model railroad

We’re talking 700 trains (one is 46-feet long), 4,000 cars, 2,800 buildings, 160,000 individually painted people. And that’s not all…

Miniatur Wunderland, in Hamburg, Germany, features six miles of track, with seven more miles on the way. It already covers 12,380 square feet, and it’s scheduled to keep growing for five years.

The trains chug through crazily detailed sets of Germany, Austrian, Switzerland, Scandinavia and the United States, with the whole system being controlled from a huge high-tech nerve center.

The attraction employs 160 people, and has already cost about $12 million to build.

Oh yeah, and I want one for Chrismas.

Guiness Factory Tour

In case you're like me and can't go to Ireland this year, check out this Travel Channel clip that takes you through the Guiness factory in Dublin. It's educational and it makes you want a beer, all at the same time.

Just curious -- is the beer free at the end of the Guiness tour? Because I seem to recall getting free beer at Busch Gardens.
