iPod combined with Nintendo controller

Considering the modern trendiness of the iPod and the retro chic element of glorifying, using or merely claiming to have owned a Nintendo Entertainment System, is this not the hippest handheld mashup of all time? This blogger certainly considers it in the running...

Live re-enactment of the infamous Leeroy Jenkins moment

Leeroy Jenkins is one of the most beloved Internet memes for gamers. It tells the tale of dorky World of Warcraft players taking the game way too seriously. They plan, calculate, strategize, prepare, plot -- you'd think they were charting out a real war with the level of detail they delve into.

And then... Leeroy Jenkins just bull rushes in, instantly destroying their well-laid plans.

Here we have Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse as the hilarious real-world take on Leeroy Jenkins.

Much thanks to former WTN guru Andrew Tran for finding this video.

And for those who aren't familiar, here's the original Leeroy Jenkins.

Lego ode to 8-bit video games

This is a cool little animation project paying tribute to classic games like Karate Champ, Megaman and Pac Man.

Those were the good old days, when video games made you want to put your fist through arcade cabinet monitors.

Real-life Mirror's Edge parkour

A guy takes a video camera and runs off walls, jumps over things, dives and rolls to mimic the video game Mirror's Edge. The game was replicating parkour, a free-style form of getting from one point to another passing obstacles as efficiently as possible. Pretty cool.

Here's the game that inspired it:

Cute South Korean kids sing about good Netiquette

Internet access and online gaming is pretty huge in South Korea. So instead of the usual patriotic songs, or the months of the year songs, that kids in elementary school are brainwashed with, here, they sing about being polite to other players.

If only they taught that to the punks I have to play online with on XBox Live.

Batman plays Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

For a master detective, Batman sure sucks at video games.

Cool Super Mario stage production

From Japan, of course, comes this amazing stage production of Super Mario. It's hard to explain, but they do an amazing job of making it actually look like a video game.

It's a fun little vid.

Real Guitar Hero calls out viral marketers

It turns out that video of a dude playing guitar hero through on a bike was all part of a viral marketing scheme. (Knew it looked way too professional)

A clearly annoyed video gamer has recorded a pretty elaborate response video.

Mario Kart acoustic love song

You've probably never seen a romantic ode based on a racing video game before. This probably won't be last.

The Presidential Campaign in the World of Warcraft's Azeroth

Is John McCain a dwarf warrior or a night-elf warrior? Such weighty questions can only be the domain of World of Warcraft where grown-up people (many of whom never kissed a girl) can indulge their dorkiest fantasies, generally neglect personal hygiene and watch pointy-eared blue chicks run around in bikinis. Not that I've ever done that. Ahem.

Still, if you ever wanted to see what each candidates base stats are, this is for you. Just make sure to don your Mantle of Dorkiness +2 before watching.

Oh, and for the record, Obama is apparently a blood-elf paladin. Or a Tauren druid.

Tiger Woods: not a glitch

So a guy who played Tiger Wood's PGA video game found a glitch where he could walk on water to hit a golf ball and uploaded a snarky video to YouTube pointing it out.

Here's the game maker's hilarious response:

South Korean celebrity e-athletes

"Get a real job," are among the tough comments that people have been leaving at the bottom on my story this morning.

But really, what's so bad about trying to make money at something you love doing? Is it because people associate video games with children? Because that's not so much the case anymore. You've got more women playing casually, you've got the elderly in retirement homes playing Wii Bowling, and even the military trains on it.

Maybe people have a problem because video games is suddenly trying to proclaim itself a legitimate sport, like cheerleading and synchronized swimming advocates have been trying for years.

Here's some perspective, in South Korea, cyber-athletes, or e-athletes, have been making hundreds of thousands of dollars from playing competitively for years. Check out the 60 Minutes segment below:

Voice actor from GTA IV needs some money

So Rent Roman, or at least toss a few pity bucks to this guy who voiced one of the characters in the mega-selling GTA IV video game. He got paid a few bucks and isn't getting a cut of any of the $500 million that the game sold.

Here's his hilarious plea:

Tetris and Super Mario music theme with bottles

I remember Tetris on my Gameboy in elementary school. I remember Tetris on my graphic calculator in high school. I remember decimating my co-worker in a Tetris competition a couple months ago. This one's for all you Tetris fans out there.

The video reminded me of a slightly older clip with a similar video game theme-- this time involving Super Mario, a parking garage, and a remote control car.

Grand Theft Auto IV trailer

So the game came out at midnight. I was in line taking video (that will be edited and uploaded to accompany my story already online very soon) and I actually saw a grown man lick the game after he bought it. There's a trend story there somewhere, but I'm still a bit too repulsed to really consider it. Consider this instead, the latest trailer for Grand Theft Auto IV, which only lets you view if you put in a year before 1991.

Grand Theft Auto: Coke commercial

You probably saw this creative commercial during the Super Bowl or in a movie theater before the trailers started. The release of GTA IV just gives me an excuse to watch it again. Really, how hard would it be to make a third-person game about some humanitarian conducting missions to save puppies, put out fires, or abolish all human rights violations?

Grand Theft Auto Skits

Grand Theft Auto IV comes out today much to the excitement of fanboys everywhere. And I do mean boys. I was in line last night for the midnight release and saw maybe three women out of more than 50 men waiting for the game.

Check out my article on the newest game in the mega-successful franchise.

You may have seen the Dave Chapelle skit on GTA, but here's a more thorough reenactment of the game complete with car chase and bank robbery:

Zelda movie trailer

Video games in general don't translate well into movies. Especially video games from Nintendo. (Anybody remember "Super Mario Bros." with Dennis Hopper as King Koopa?) But then this well-made fan trailer made me think that Link and Zelda might actually do alright in the movie medium... And then I saw that green hat. Oh well. Sweet effects, though!
