Classic sketch comedy becomes real life (sort of): America blows up the moon

In tribute to NASA's mission to hurl spacecraft into the moon, here is, in my opinion, one of the finest comedy sketches of all time: The "America blows up the moon" sketch from Mr. Show.

For those who haven't seen it yet, it's a fantastic parody of various elements of politics, culture and possibly also line dancing. Check it out:

ZOMG, newspaper on your own computer? Not in 1981, at least

This news report from 1981 on computers downloading newspapers (only takes 2 hours per paper!) is both hilarious and terribly sad. To hear a quote like, "We're not in it to make money," is ironic, given the fact that the Internet is doing a number on newspapers today since nobody is making money on the Web.

Regardless, this is a fun news report showing that some scientific predictions do come true. Now where the hell is my flying car?

G.I. Joe and William "The Refrigerator" Perry

Somehow I went through all of the 1980s without realizing that there was a William "The Refrigerator" Perry action figure. Thankfully, my friend Jeremy brought this old clip to my attention.

Eartha Kitt singing 'Santa Baby'

From the Associated Press on the death of Eartha Kitt:

A family friend says Eartha Kitt, a sultry singer, dancer and actress who rose from South Carolina cotton fields to become an international symbol of elegance and sensuality, has died. She was 81.

Here is Eartha Kitt singing her biggest hit, "Santa Baby":

Informational bread video and for some reason, dancing

It's time to dig up the old video cassettes because more than likely they'll contain viral video gold.

For example, this really odd clip. It starts with a lady talking about whole grain and ends with a shirtless headband wearing guy slicing bread. I can't rationalize why it exists. You'll see what I mean when you click on it.

Egg McMuffin Tribute

The creator of the Egg McMuffin died last week, and we at WTN would be remiss if we went another day go by without an appropriate tribute.

My fellow blogger Gail Gedan Spencer suggested a sort-of gross and really long clip that involved a McMuffin eating contest -- ironic, considering she blogs for "The Skinny" -- but I decided to strike out on my McOwn and found these Egg McMuffin-related clips.

This circa-1970s commercial features a jingle that will stay in your head for days:

And you can say pretty much the same thing for this Australian McMuffin commercial. Did someone say bacon?

Finally, an amateur McMuffin commercial. You can tell it's an amateur clip because at one point a McGriddle sandwich flashes on the screen instead of the McMuffin, and a pro just simply wouldn't make that mistake.

Honest Abe, Captain Kirk, Spock and the gang

I've read several biographies about Abraham Lincoln and none mention that the Great Emancipator was yanked out of the time-space continuum to fight monsters in the 23rd Century. But I know it's true. I've seen it.
Oh, and catch Abe's politically incorrect faux pas with Uhura at the end of the clip:
