'American Idol': Kris Allen Best on 'Opry'
One fine thing about "American Idol" -- one of admittedly a few -- is that just when you've decided you've figured an edition out, and have reached iron-clad assumptions that can not be broken under any circumstance whatsoever ... you then break your iron-clad assumptions. The show manages this trick in a number of ways but certainly one effective way are the thematic weeks. Those tend to bring out different skill sets, or refract personalities in entirely different ways. Or surprising ways.
Last night: A pretty good night overall. Yeah, some disappointments. Alexis Grace, one of my favorites, basically mimicked Dolly Parton. Megan Joy -- who now apparently has dropped the "Corkrey" -- continues to mystify me. I know she was ill, but what in the name of COUNTRY did the judges see in that peculiar Patsy Cline performance? Lil Rounds? Only...so-so.
Who goes tonight? My wild guess: Allison Iraheta.
Meanwhile, Kris Allen. He was best. Why? Because he took a reasonably well-known song ("To Make You Feel My Love") by a extraordinarily well-known singer (Garth Brooks) and recast in a way that was surprisingly intimate for a show that lauds and rewards out-there performances with gutsy vocals or (especially) high C's that don't break the camera lens. "Idol" reveres drama, so rare is that performance that twists the formula around, as Allen did so well. Sure, the song is corn, but some of the best country is. A winner.
Allen didn't get the most votes -- I'm sure Danny Gokey did, as usual -- but he got enough to keep him around, and make voters pay a little more attention next time ... By the way, I thought Adam Lambert's high-camp drag version of "Ring of Fire" was darned good too, so there you have it...

Definitely Best-Of-Show no question about that. I don't think Kris has gotten the reconnection that he deserve. The kid is really really good.
Kris's performances have been good, but he doesn't stand out the way Anoop, Adam, or Danny stand out. I think you're way wrong about Allison, though. The men have the talent this season, but Allison is the best female contestant.

I thought this was absolutely fantastic. Hot, mesmerizing, and the way he moved, paired with his facial expressions, made it genuinely sincere, not just another AI contestant singing their version of someone else's song. I'm pulling for Kris all the way.
You should check out his Studio performance(it's the full song). It is amazing. Kris Allen has always been my fav. (I never really like Adam, like every other person.)

danny and adam stands out because they were given crazy airtime through out the competition. as if the producers have decided to document every step of their idol journey.
The performance was outstanding. I heard his studio version today, and I'm thinking that he will be a great recording artist. He's the total package, and a genuinely nice guy as well. Rare.
Kris is the best and talented among male contestant this season, I hope he made it. good luck Kris!

Even Kara said his rendition of "Everything" by Micheal Buble was better than the original. This should prove to people that Kris can take a great song and make it better. Not many artist can do that. I think you have seen the best of Danny and Adam....I think we are merely scratching the surface with Kris. I hope he is around until the end.

I am becoming a HUGE FAN of Kris Allen - he's quite an amazingly subtle artist with a LOT of POTENTIAL
Kris is really marketable to the record companies. He sings great. He is very sexy. He is quirky. He can play musical instruments. He is a song writer. He would also translate good to teen crowd and older people. He has never had a bad night on the show. The judges have loved him so far.

omgsh kris allen is my FAVORITE on Idol, he has to make it all the way to the end, i really hate the fact that everyone i know likes Adam, they are all like OMG HE IS SO HOT, well guess what that drag queen is soo gay and his voice, not that good, Ring of Fire was actually scary and i couldnt watch, one of the only times i agreed with simon was that it was rubish i can't wait for more idol this season, and i'm pretty sure kris isnt going anywhere, he is sooo cute and he has the most natural voice in the competition, and his hair looks soft :], and i think thats important thats why i think that Alexis left because she had granny hair on tuesday and thats why Allison was in the bottom, and the fact that allison sounds like she's been smoking for the past 20 years and she's what, 16, honestly. my prediction for who diserves top 3 this season_Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, and probably Matt Giraud or Lil Rounds :]
Kris was indeed the best of the night! Entertainment Weekley and Billboard Magazine both agreed as they put him on the top of their rankings list of the Opry Idol performances.
Adam was my early favorite of the competition but now the one I'm rooting for is Kris Allen. I hope they are both in the finals. Kris is probably the contestant that has grown the most on people over the course of the competition, he has risen from obscurity and has surprised many people. He is perhaps the contestant that I am the most proud of because he just keeps getting better and better and giving us something unique, quirky, interesting, unexpected & heartfelt each week. She Works Hard for the Money was brilliant. Allison also really impresses me, it is a really tough & challenging experience that she'll living through right now. She has an amazing voice, especially for a 16/17 year old. Her sweet, mellow song this week for the top 5 was her best: Someone to Watch Over Me. Even Danny is growing on me a bit in this competition (when he's singing softly/sweetly and not yelling the song). This top 4 group is the best, somebody extremely talented has to go home next week. I thought it would be Allison but she did an amazing job this week and landed herself in the top 2, so who knows? I hope Kris stays in the competition for at least another week, he is my favorite. Kris (and Adam maybe) is the most interesting contestant, I'm always waiting to see what he will come up with next.
