"Life on Mars" Dies on Earth in May
It's over for "Life on Mars," or will be this May. ABC has given the show notice that it won't pick up another season beyond this one.
And that's that.
TV Week has the story this morning, and quotes ABC boss Steve McPherson, saying that giving the show to May gives it closure and the fans closure...
"We felt it was the right thing to do for the producers and the fans and creatively."
The show began with high, high hopes, even after David Kelley was ejected as show-runner. The new guys, Andre Nemec, and Scott Rosenberg, were parachuted in and put together a terrific pilot. But after that, I fear, the show tailed off into silly-land. I'm a big admirer of Jason O'Mara, but he never seemed to carry the show. Meanwhile, ABC is certainly doing the right thing here - the BBC run was limited too. This "Life" has run its course too.

The music, the clothes and the cars should have earned this show at least one more year. Harvey Keitel and Michael Imperioli are strong, and Gretchen Mol plays dumb smarter than anyone on the cast. I would have liked to watch/discover what and where Sam really is. I didn't expect this to enjoy a "Cheers" run, but the show deserved better than the quickie ending that it will now get. And as for silly-land, ABC makes its payroll thanks to a silly-land show named "Lost."

OMG - This is my VERY FAVORITE SHOW on TV. Intriuging - keeps you guess and the star - WHAT A HOTTIE!! I AM TRULY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS DECISION. DID THIS SHOW NOT GET ENOUGH RATINGS. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH EVERY SHOW I END UP ENJOYING IS TAKEN OFF THE AIR. WHAT A SHAME - A GREAT CAST!!!!!

This is one of those fun shows that takes us back in time and reminds us of how far we have come in the last 30 years. I am very disappointed that the show will not stay on the air. My husband and I liked how the characters were developing and Sam was finally being accepted into the department.
Sorry to see it go. Please tell me you won't put any kind of "reality" program on. I am so tired of that poop!
I couldn't believe it. I love the show. But to be honest I know that younger people well those that don't remember the 70s don't seem to understand any of it. I am really going to miss this show.
ABC your nuts. I stopped watching Lost 2 years ago. Boring
The ending was brilliant, though. If they'd had that writing all the way through, would have continued.
I'm 22 and LOVED the show, i just keep telling myself "they'll bring it back for season 2 when their next project fails. it will have all been a dream. aww who am i kidding...
