"The Daily Show:" Jim Cramer Fires Back

Well, sort of.

I do like to have catchily misleading headlines to get people to read this stuff.

In fact, on this morning's "Today Show," Jim Cramer did make what I believe to be his first public comments about last week's encounter with Jon Stewart. Meredith Vieira was de-briefing some members of the CNBC starting line-up about AIG, when she turned to Cramer, "I can't let you go without asking about..."

...that horrific debacle last week. (She didn't really say that - I did. Actually, it wasn't THAT bad for Cramer, though everyone else pretty much declared it to be career-ending; whatever.)

Said he, "it's naive and misleading to blame the media" for the current economic crisis.

"We weren't behind this. CNBC, in particular, has been out front on this," per a transcript from HuffPo. "I think there are people who bear so much more responsibility [than the media] that it's just wrong-headed -- the politicians, the regulators, the SEC, the lenders, the investment banks. ... It's just a naive focus, it really is Meredith."

He added that he didn't fight back because he was "taught to take the high road."

Right, Jim. Like "Mad Money" is the high road. (Sorry....I couldn't resist. That was uncalled for, Gay, entirely uncalled for.)

That was about it. There were no threats or declarations, like, "if I ever meet Jon Stewart in a dark alley," or "that guy Stewart's a dweeb anyway."

A shame: Nothing like having this thing continue on for a few more weeks. When or if I get a transcript/clip, will post.

Cramer is a lier and a wimp. Not man enough to make these comments calmly and politely to Stewarts face. Shame. Cramer and Santelli keep protecting the Wall Street fat cats to the tune of trillions of dollars, while complaining about losers who loast their jobs and can't pay their mortgage. Or yell and scream about lazy, overpaid American autoworkers. Yeah, like AIG exec's earned their bonuses. But Santelli won't complain a word about them.

I can't believe Cramer could go on the Daily Show, sit there in front of Jon Stewart, and miss the whole point. Nobody is blaming CNBC for the entire economic crisis. We're blaming CNBC for their lack of journalistic integrity. We're blaming CNBC for putting CEO's on their programs and asking softball questions, and then not checking to see if the answers are actually true. We're blaming CNBC for allowing idoelogy to replace objectivity. If Cramer can't even see what the problem is, how can he, in his words, "try to do better"? And to call Stewart naive is really laughable when Cramer couldn't possibly imagine his CEO "friends" would lie to his face to increase their stock prices. How much more naive can you get?

Yes, and now we have NBC chief Zucker complaining about fairness. How unfair, that Stewart shows us the video tape of Cramer explaining how he manipulated the market, when Cramer was making the opposite, but unfortunately untrue, argument that he is virtually naive to market manipulation. It says something even more damning about the media, when these figures can blatantly contradict themselves, then beat the rap by whining about being taken out of context, or being victimized by scapegoating.

If Jon Stewart was unfair, then take the time to prove him wrong. He and The Daily Show staff took the time to prove their case and make their argument as to why CNBC and other networks should have done a better job reporting and be less of cheerleaders. They're not exactly at a loss for resources, so they can put together a solid rebuttal of Jon's points.

It seems that they are less interested in defending themselves from criticism and more interested in deflecting and marginalizing the criticism against them

Alas, I've watched Jim Cramer a few times and all the guy does is yell, just like the guy who sells stuff on infomercials. I'd trust him to direct my finances as much as I'd trust Bernie Madoff.

Jim Cramer isn't even the worst offender on CNBC Larry Kudlow and the Maria Bartiromo, along with the two crazys whose name escape me te Big eyed Blond and the rightwing brunette, not the one named Erin are so wack that they need to be on Fox News

Whats your favorite news network? They all have their obvious issues of bias. I personally would like to solve the issue at hand rather than pointing fingers at news networks, CNBC or other. By the way, John Stewart is host of the DAILY SHOW. The day people give him high ground on these matters is a sad one. Do your own research, read a book, quit complaining about the media. If only I had the time to splice film together of all the hypocrisies from John Stewart. But even if i did, he just hosts a comedy show...
