"American Idol:" Scott

And....my wrap in tomorrow's paper...should you care..

"Amazing guy, but sometimes...amazing isn't good enough. Scott MacIntyre was sent home last night. And then, there were seven.

Why send Scott home? Well...who else are you gonna boot? Anoop?

"Scott, someone's got to make a decision here," said Simon, self-appointed decision-maker. "And it's the end of the competition."

In a credit to his genuine talent, MacIntyre actually made it tough for the judges last night - 30 million votes and only 30,000 (per Ryan Seacrest) separating him and Anoop Desai. But there was to be no recount. The judges, or at least Simon, made the right decision.

In a hard-to-define kind of way, this has been a expedient season. Someone's gotta go. Last night, Scott went. But it could have been Lil (though shouldn't have been) or the cat of dozen lives, Anoop. All of the contestants to this point are certainly solid, talented, proficient, well-voiced (is there such a term? Whatever..) and telegenic. But all of them, with the exception of the clear front runner - Adam Lambert - lack something. "Something," in this case, is most easily defined as "exciting" or "defiantly different." Kris Allen? Wonderful. But (umm) just a little dull. Lil? Matt Giraud? Still not sure who she or he is. Allison? Great big voice, but... Anoop? A couple of lives to go perhaps.

That leaves us with the two who will end up winning this thing a month and a week from now: Danny Gokey or Lambert.

Scott - who sang Survivor's old chestnut, "The Search is Over," has one of the richest backgrounds of any contestant in "Idol" history - scholarships, awards, degrees the length of your arm. Plus, he's been one of the most likable contestants on that stage over eight seasons.

But again, this isn't about "likable." It's about ratings and selling records."

Lil sucks and I can't believe she stayed over Scott!

Yah, Scott should have got a save vote there. Not because he could win the competition but because of his showmanship, and the fact that he has been such a true gentalman and such a great and wonderful ambassador for the people who have challenges with sight and everyone else in between. But that's not all. He has very distinct voice that I would compare to Barry Manilow. He's just a greta kid and I hate to see him go.

I agree with both of you, Scott deserves a save because of his showmanship and talent. I really feel he is more creative than Lil, the karaoke queen who just mimic and also had some very lack lustre performances. Some of Scott's performances are more inspirational and better than a few others'.

Lil Rounds is a no-talent hoodrat that should have been eliminated. Weeks ago.

Idol has already had a couple of Lil Round types. One was Fantasia. Another was Jennifer Hudson. America does not need to hear any more of Lil Rounds she sounds like Macy Gray on crack. Horrible.

I think Scott should have stayed. He was the biggest draw for me this season. He messed up a couple of notes on the end of his ballad, but otherwise his voice was crystal - beautiful. When I listen to his voice it seems to be very soothing. I wonder about the songs he chose though. I don't think he chose them because the songs would bring a "wow" factor. I think he chose them because the songs were meaningful for him and his challenges. He really tapped into me and he became a solid human being in my eyes. I will miss him.

It's the choices, people, from week to week and Scott made a bad song choice. One that was out of his range. He wanted to show a different side of himself but I am not sure that side really exists. I don't ever see Scott as getting funky. But he is an incredible talent and Idol has opened doors for him that other wise may never had opened. Should he have gotten the save? I don't know. I just know he made a bad song choice and it bit him in the butt. But Scott will be ok and we will be hearing from him again soon.

Check out the studio version here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bLHcKIlk-Y&feature=related, it's actually very nice and inspirational. Not a fan of Scott, but I am blown away by just listening to this studio version.
