TV Tea Party War

PVODNIKR1teabag29k.jpg Wow - whatta story, and I don't mean the tea parties: I do mean coverage of the tea parties.

Fox News has now officially moved away from flogging the tea party story to flogging its competitors who flogged THEM. Yes, it's confusing, but this is war - over ratings, money, stature, mindshare.

Yesterday, representatives for CNN and Fox were furiously dialing around to various members of the TV press to point out just how irresponsible the other's coverage was. Fox used that Susan Roesgen interview in Chicago for exhibit A; she actually blamed Fox on the air for something, unclear what that was (See below.) Fox supporter Drudge later got in the act, posting that Anderson Cooper "teabagging" post.

Here's Shep Smith, upon hearing of the now famous (or infamous, depending on your choice off networks) Roesgen outburst, as reported on TVNewser: "I've just learned it's Anti-CNN day. I know, right? I had no freakin' clue....Just a minute ago, that Susan Roesgen, from that CNN, that people used to watch a long time ago...Anti-CNN? Who's anti-CNN, settle down Susan! Come on girl...Poor Susan Roesgen, nobody hates you, everybody ... we love the CNN. Relax everybody. Don't get your hate on."

And MSNBC? It was left last night to its resident Fox basher/hater/reviler, Keith Olbermann, to lay out a separate case, where he effectively accuses Bill O'Reilly of doing something that I'd rather not get into here; that's a network first anywhere, I believe.

Now, this! Megyn Kelly just got off the air with Brent Bozell, Media Research Center guy, who was created in the alternate universe to Keith Olbermann. "All the sex jokes about teabagging" on MSNBC and CNN, he sputtered, promising viewers he wouldn't explain what the term meant. "But they had them by the dozens. That's how insulting they [MSNBC and CNN] were to people who believed they were being taxed too much...How DARE they criticize Fox when they were so clearly promoting their own agenda."

Ummm, what agenda was that?

Boy, this is just wacky.

--"How DARE they criticize Fox when they were so clearly promoting their own agenda." --

How DARE any of you fecking criticize the public for what they're free to do in regards to the government.

How about you DARE to just report the 5 W's and let people know what's going instead of telling people what to think about what's going on?

How about you "journalists" figure out that you are HUGE part of what's wrong with our country and you're destroying?

While I did not participate in a tea party, my 60-something mother did. I know for her, it had little to do with a media frenzy and more to do with the fact that Obama isn't doing what he promised on the campaign trail. What about reducing pork-barrel spending and earmarks, Obama? Now, after his infamous Stimulus Package, a logical person could only assume higher taxes are to follow. In her small town of 6,000, over 1,000 people showed up for the "tea party". There were no news cameras. There were no big Republican egos fueling the fire. Just a group of American citizens fed up with politics-as-usual. Rather than focusing on the media's opinion (who the hell cares anymore) we should give credit to the thousands of Americans exercising their constitutional right to gather and protest when they are deeply concerned about the direction of their country.

It is quite easy to see why CNN is finishing a lousy second to Fox News when they allow and back such "reporters" as Susan Roesgen to "report." No wonder the liberals want to police the media with the "Unfairness Act."

Whats amazing to me is the critique that because Bush also spent like a drunken sailor people have no reason to protest Obama! Amazing!

First of all most people including many republicans, independents and true conservatives were disillusioned with Bush (see the 25% approval ratings and the anti republican/bush signs at tea parties) and secondly that because one wasn't up arms over a grievance at one point means they can't protest when the same things happens but to order of magnitudes greater than before is the simplest and stupidest critique I've heard.

I mean hey, if you didn't protest the non-UN supported military intervention in Kosovo you certainly couldn't have opposed the iraq war right?

America - love it or leave it.
If you're happy about the job our Navy did in rescuing the Maersk Alabama crew, then pay your taxes with pride.
and if you *really* want to throw a tea-party - throw it against your state or county, where taxes REALLY have increased.

"America - love it or leave it"

How bout stay here and help make it better??

"America - love it or leave it"

How bout stay here and help make it better??

"America - love it or leave it"

How about stay and help make it better?

Hater -

no. just go. and take the tea with you cuz we drink coffee here anyway.
or stay and pay so we can afford our roads, institutions, schools...

The Teabag parties were nothing more than the Fox "News Channel" Version of the ESPN promoted X Games. Hey, it worked out okay for them!

personally, I think Susan Roegen's "performance" is one of the great things to come out of the tea parties.

if there was EVER A DOUBT about liberal media bias, this clip removes all doubt.

Thanks, Susan. Well done. CNN is now a national joke..

Susan Roesgen must be part of the "hand in the wallet" 50
% of Americans who are getting benefit of the stimulus by stealing it from someone else and her future children and grandchildren.

It was horrendous to see the way that CNN represented this whole story.

I was not at yesterday's Tea Party, but you can be sure that I will be at the next one.

If the White House and main stream media would treat these people and their concerns with any level of respect, they would be treated with respect in return. These protestors were, for the most part, respectful, funny and genuinely concerned about the burgeoning federal deficit. Just because pseudo-conservative Bush ran up a trillion dollar debt does not give liberals carte blance to quadruple it on the backs of our kids. And if you are too ignorant of economics to know why that is a problem, you're too ignorant to explain it to.

What does this have to do with my taxes? What a stupid question or point. Where do you think the money for these programs come from honey. What a dope.

Thank you amazed - I have been asking the same thing. Are those who criticize us saying 2 wrongs make a right? Are we being punished with more taxes because we are conservatives? I simply don't understand that argument. We didn't agree with it under George Bush and we certainly aren't going to sit back and let Barak Obama dig us into a deeper hole with a debt so mammoth it will be next to impossible to ever be a country of great prosperity ever again. The American dream will effectively be dead. The land of opportunity will be no more.

Also, we brought our 7 year old daughter to 2 tea parties yesterday, not because she is against higher taxes and needed to speak out, but because I wanted her to see that in our country we have the right to stand up and speak out of we don't like the direction our leadership is taking us in. I want her to learn that if you don't like something in our country you can't just sit back and wait for somebody else to fix the problem; you have to get out there and make your voice be heard. Teach her that in America we have the right and the obligation (as far as I am concerned) to take an active part in our own lives and liberties. That the liberty we enjoy as American's is a gift from our founding fathers and it needs to be protected and exercised.

For us the tea parties are not a Republican thing or a Democrat thing, I really wish Keith Obermann and Nancy Pelosi and others would understand that. It was an anti-party thing. Leaders (I use the term loosely) from both sides are guilty. It was not an anti-government statement it was a statement against irresponsible government. I can assure you I am not rich and I don't know any rich people. It was not just about money it's about liberty and state sovereignty. If all of the critics can't see what's happening I don't think they ever will and they will stay on this insane spending spree. That's OK though. They all work for us and their jobs are only temporary.

"Like Dennis Miller, I like helping the helpless, but I don't like helping the clueless!"
Susan is so clueless, she should get in line for help! I don't watch CNN; I watch their shenanigans on FOX !

"stupid is as stupid does"

how many of those teabag protesters earned $250,000 this year?
the rest (99.9999%) are fools....they are protesting for low taxes for the rich.

btw: when you protest nationwide, you PICK ONE FREAKING SUBJECT TO PROTEST!
protesting gun, taxes, spending, Obama's birthplace, etc...."stupid is as stupid does"

98% of the american public calling and emailing their representatives in congress said NO BAILOUT NO STIMULUS BILL. There was little and/or no review of these bills and I believe that this is what the people are protesting I mean really WTF?
It is complete craziness in DC or the biggest swindle of our lifetime fixed by george souros and warren buffet and goldman sachs.

I own a business a send out bids for jobs all the time...there was NO oversight or research here on these bills. If you are not concerned I suggest you take a refresher course in basic math.

I would like to personally thanks every congressperson who voted NO to this trainwreck.

#2 Fox News 1,798,000 (avg)
#24 CNN 710,000 (avg)
#27 MSNBC 686,000 (avg)

source: Nielsen Media Research, ratings 3/30/09-4/05/09

Funny thing -- this was actually a good week for CNN and MSNBC... it will be interesting to see how the ratings come out this week.

The CNN reporter was not bad at all. She asked some guy a question and rather than answer he went off screaming out his own little rant. That is to be expected from some at any public demo. I, for one thought she should have been more abrupt in telling him to can it. However, the guy towered over her by a head and was screaming at her so it is easy for me to say.

Bottom line is our taxes would reduce quite a bit if we did not needlessly spend so much on "defense" and use our military as private defense corps for corporations.

IMO Americans should read more about our own history (start with General Smedley Butler's "War is a Racket") before spouting opinions. E.g. any who believe a Glenn Beck are just misinformed, not bad people by definition, just badly read Americans.

If one cannot read or does not like to read then watch some old Max Headroom episodes to see how the corporate "News" media are playing all of us for ratings/money.

>> Stevefar: It is quite easy to see why CNN is finishing a lousy second to Fox News when they allow and back such "reporters" as Susan Roesgen to "report." No wonder the liberals want to police the media with the "Unfairness Act."

Finishing a lousy second? Sad to say, they're even WORSE than that. CNN which used to be king of the hill -- hard to believe they used to actually be Number One -- now even trails MSNBC and consistently comes in third in the ratings, if not even fourth at times losing even to CNBC. And let's face it, you have to be pretty crappy and possess a viewership of about 10 to come in behind a joke organization like MSNBC.

CNN is done. Stick a fork in them and throw out the scraps. Or be honest enough to admit that they need a revamp from the ground floor up, and do it fast so that maybe...just maybe...you could actually save the organization. However, that revamp will certainly require the firing of laughably bad journalists like Susan Roesgen, who frankly just shot her career in the foot yesterday by clearly coming off as such a biased hack tool on the air.

Andersen said a mouthful...

>> Maxx: The CNN reporter was not bad at all.

You're kidding, right? She was HORRENDOUS. Everything she did was what they teach you NOT to do in Journalism 101 or Broadcast 101. For as short as the video clip is, she does things that make her look like a rank amateur on her first assignment. To say she performed unprofessionally and even lost her cool would be putting it mildly.

>> She asked some guy a question and rather than answer he went off screaming out his own little rant.

Sorry, but you must be watching a different clip than the rest of us. First of all, he wasn't "screaming a rant at her." She asked a question and he tried to answer. He simply did the natural thing that most people do in a crowd (and trust me, as someone who works in Hollywood, we see this happen all the time) which was to talk extra loud because you instinctively think the crowd around you is drowning you out. So you speak extra loud to compensate, not realizing the mic is more than capable of zeroing in on your voice.

As for saying "rather than answer, he went off screaming" what are you talking about? Right from the start, he was clearly trying to make a point about Lincoln and taxes. However, once it became clear within the first few seconds that he actually DID have a solid point to make, Susan Roesgen instantly made a decision to cut him off -- which is WHY she quickly pulls the mic away from him. But worst of all, that's when she does the most laughable thing of all and suddenly tosses out a pro-Obama statement to try and get him off message.

And THAT'S the moment where Roesgen loses ALL credibility. Because that's the moment she stopped being a reporter and decided to insert herself and her own personal opinions into the story.

>> I, for one thought she should have been more abrupt in telling him to can it.

Well, as I just mentioned, you basically got your wish since she instantly pulled the mic away from the guy while he was in mid-sentence and didn't allow him to complete his thought. Which is always the sign of a good reporter who is actually interested in covering a story and properly gathering information (insert a giant old style Rodney Dangerfield mocking eye roll here...)

There was nothing wrong with the reporter. She did an excellent job. It was how ignorant and rude the man was that she asked a question to. That lady was at a KKK rally, hidden as a tea party. Rule number one, those type of people never let anyone get a word in. They don't even know how to talk properly. She would've gotten a better answer out of a child at a daycare.

Worst Reporter in the History of News

To all of you who think your taxes will not go up, especially YOU Walrus
In 2008 if a tax payer being paid biweekly made $100,000 that tax payer stopped paying into social security in November.
That means from November through to December 31st that tax payer kept approximately $1,000 of their hard earned money because there is a cap of $92,000.
That means after you reach $92,000 you no longer pay into SS.
In January you start anew.
In 2010 Your man Obama is removing the Social Security cap.
So while you might believe the lies and drink his cool aid there are others of us who make less then $250,000 and know our taxes are indeed going up.
So sit back there Walrus and watch from your whole in the ground as the rest of us protest about the lack of fiscal responsibility you and your guy promote with our hard earned dollars.
And here’s a saying for you since you seem to like to apply saying’s
“A fool says to every one on the road with him that he is a fool”
That comes from a book you might have heard of but probably never really read.
The Bible

"Journal"ist...are meant to observe and report FACTS...and then journal them...not spout their own opinions and be confrontational with the person they are interviewing. That's the job of a political commentator like Sean Hanity or Rachel Maddow. Unfortuately she really handled it very unprofessionally and embarrassed herself in front of her "PROFESSIONAL" collegues. Get a clue No one cares what you think and just becasue you're on TV doesn't mean your opinions are more important than the person your interviewing. Diane Sawyer once said the best skill a journalist can have is to listen as if you could hear a pin drop. I guess Susan forgot what her role really is...to pass on information ...not to be the information.

There is clearly a place in hell for that succubus lair thief and Nazi...

Doublethink

n. Thought marked by the acceptance of gross contradictions and
falsehoods, especially when used as a technique of
self-indoctrination: "Doublethink . . . is a vast system of mental
cheating" (George Orwell).

Also:

the acceptance of two contradictory ideas or beliefs at the same
time.

I greatly appreciate Keith Olbermann’s continuing expose of FOX
NEWS Doublethink. Especially that involving FOX NEWS sponsoring
( yet at the same time not sponsoring ) the tea party.

Sarah,

Sorry, IMO Diane Sawyer is not a journalist, just as Fox News [sic] is not a news channel. They are both fluff, to me. That is my opinion you have a different one.

Rick,

Why get bent out of shape that $$$ of income over 92K get SS taxed? It does not bother me, I have always found it odd that when I hit the circa 90K amount (depending on what year) I paid less tax. To me, that is stupid by the government. In fact IMO ALL income s/b taxed at the same rate whether corporate, personal, business, inherited, capital gains etc. The bogus argument that it is taxed twice is to me silly. New income is still new income to the person receiving it no matter the source and no matter if the original income had been taxed.

If we as a society want to have different rates of tax then the progressive argument makes even more sense as Americans. I.e. the more you make the more that you have benefited from the commons, and likely the more you use the commons, so therefore one should pay more at the top percentage-wise not less.

I see know reason to scapegoat on the dummies at the bottom for any pittance of grafting that they do while rewarding those at the top for the huge grafting that they do. I would wager that the amount of government subsidies going to those at the top is much more than that going to those at the bottom.

If one wants to get upset and protest that is all well and good, but then aiming the protest at the correct target would be a good start. Corporate welfare recipients and those supported by such welfare being the major culprits and not some poor stupid drug addicts or others grafting for a couple hundred bucks a month for food stamps and other scraps.

Hollywood,

Well, we just disagree. To me the CNN reporter was not bad. The guy went off on his Lincoln speech (to me rant) when asked a simple question as to why he was there. That is his right, but it does not make him correct in what he said. I could hear the people in the background screaming at the lady she was not a reporter etc. That probably prompted her remark that it was an anti-CNN crowd and the rally was highly promoted by Fox News [sic], which to me is true.

Zubra your posts make me laugh. Nobody accross America thinks this bias reporter did a good job excect you I guess. You are just here to antagonize people instead of having a true debate. The ones in Washington are raping America and keeping people quaralling with one another. Whichever party is in charge throws their supporters crumbs while they move forward with their big adjenda which is the same from both parties. (dictatorship) If you had gone to a party and saw the patriotism and unity between Republicans, Dems, and independents, you might understand what people were there for. We have to unite this country and get these lying theives out of Washington. That is what the tea parties were about and that is going to be the building blocks forward. Extreme radicals on both sides will have to be pushed aside.
