Save Our Show Campaign: "Life on Mars"
Boys wondering about life after death of "Life on Mars" (ABC)
Did you know that ABC is about to get a full save-our-show treatment from diehard fans of the recently canceled "Life on Mars?" You do now...
This campaign sounds like a fairly low-key one - truckloads of Mars Bars, in other words, will not be delivered to Steve McPherson. But these fans do sound serious... (I'm a little surprised: Certainly much to be admired about "LoM," but it did turn awfully awfully silly, and that end - dreaming of being a cop in "French Connection"-era New York? While en-route to Mars? While in a deep freeze? Where does this show go from here?)
Here's what the group says:
"Our goal at this point is to solicit ABC to rerun Life on Mars over the summer in an effort to increase the fan base with the end result being a renewal of this phenomenal program. To date, our efforts have included appealing to ABC in a congenial and collaborative manner. We are not attacking ABC for canceling the show; rather, we are conveying a professional attitude. ABC is a leader in the introduction of original and innovative programming, and as consumers of their programs, we are endeavoring to work with them from an audience perspective to ensure quality programming, like Life on Mars, has a chance to succeed. Pairing Life on Mars with a similar show like October Road over the summer is one way in which we could draw new viewers."

Great Show, one of the few I can really say was unique and interesting. Hope we see a second season.
The last episode really took me by surprise, but l enjoyed the show and all of the character's.
I am so tired of all of the CSI shows these days because they repeat themselves every week with the same camera clicking
and walking around in daylight with their flashlights saying the same thing every week.
It is so boring.
Life on Mars cracks me up and is different every week.
What they can do is have a brief stay over on Mars and on the way back have Sam have another dream but only in another time period.
The show is worth saving!

It made us think back to the 70's and things were very archaic such as only having phones in the police department, not seeing any computers on the desks of the detectives. Women who were in the police force were still wearing skirts. I mean, it brings people back to a time when things may have been harder as far as the lack of technology in some aspects, but when someone goes back in time with a cell phone in their pocket, and can't share this info with others it kind of makes you wonder what was going to happen next. Does this make sense? I don't know, but what doesn't make sense is to cancel this show. BRING IT BACK!!! Get help from the public if you can't think of where to "go to next." Just BRING IT BACK!!

Seriously? This takes the "save our show" campaign to a whole new level. The show ended. It's over. Definitively. Time to accept that and move on.
It's getting so that networks can't cancel a series these days without the sudden influx of some fan-designated product cluttering up their mailrooms. Now, I'm not usually one to jump to the defense of the networks, and I've been upset about cancelations myself before, but when a show gets an ending that provides complete closure, it's a pretty sure bet that it's not ever coming back.
To the network executives at ABC:
I understand how these things work. Unlike reality shows, one hour long dramatic series like LOM are much more expensive to make ad maintain. In the end the bottom line is always money. ABC network is a business and the goal of any business it to make a profit. So basically this is how it works:
Networks make their money from advertisers who give the networks money to promote their products thus increasing awareness and boosting sales. However advertisers want to get the most bang for their buck. Why should they run their commercials during a show with low ratings? That means less people are watching and their advertisement is not reaching its full potencial. Instead advertisers want to strategically buy ad time during the highest rated shows because that means they can reach the most people and thus have the highest potential to generate a profit. That's why a commercial spot during the Superbowl costs so much. A show like LOM coasts a lot to make and if the ratings are not good the advertisers will not buy time during that slot. If the network wants to keep the show they will have to either do something to boost their ratings and get the advertisers interested again or they have to drop the cost of ad space. The problem is that the networks needs the money they make from the advertisers not only to match the cost of the show but to exceed it, remember ABC is in business to make money not break even.
So the reason LOM is canceled isn't because the network executives at ABC are too young to appreciate the show or because they are stupid. On the contrary they are business minded and they know when to cut their losses. Everyone is quick to point fingers at the network and call them the villains, and while I have no love for networks and their executives either, I do understand their position. The real problem here is society. Most people would rather watch a reality show or programing that doesn't involve too much thought. A show like LOM is an intelligent drama that most people unfortunately just dont have the patience for.
So while people are pleading with the network to bring the show back I don't know how effective that will be unless there is a petition signed by enough people to warrant it. I loved LOM, it was really one of my favorite shows on television but it might be too late to save it. In the future when we see intelligent shows we like we should tell our friends, encourage others to check it out, and figure out what we can do about the inherit laziness in society.
As for the networks well they are not 100% innocent in this either, its true that it's not their fault enough people did not watch the show but they could take some steps to help ensure better viewership. For one they should have aired it before lost not after. Lost fans who tune in to watch it every week probably tune in a little early and catch the last 10 minutes of the previous show, if that previous show was LOM they might get interested and tune in for the whole thing the following week. But if they watch lost first then LOM comes on I seriously doubt they will watch it after. Another suggestion maybe not just to change the time slot but the day LOM airs. Although I am not fond of this idea if it makes sense then they should consider it. Fridays are generally not considered a popular night for TV, its the start of the weekend and people go out. Most programing on Fridays is more family oriented and less edgy, that might just be a good fit for LOM.
Finally accentuate what the show does well for example most people love the audio or music element of the show. Also the accuracy in which the seventies is portrayed is another asset. So place the emphasis on these things as well as the stories and character development and cut down on costly things that the show can do without like explosions and special effects.
Anyway that's my 2 cents. In the end I really hope they bring the show back but I think that's more up to the viewers than it is the network.

The audience is out there!!! Quality shows often need time to gain fan momentum. This show is locked with dry wit, whimsey, unique twists and the ever compelling Harvey Keitel. Bring it back & watch for the audience kudos!

Please brring Life On Mars back! I was shocked and saddened when I heard this wonderfully witty, interesting and unique series was going to be cancelled. I truly hope that the audience reaction means something because I have only heard great things said about this show. I'm loving everything about it, the cast is amazing, Harvey Keitel seriously rocks, as do Michael, Jason, Gretchen and Jonathan and the recurring cast members and guest stars are picked to perfection. I also luurve the music, the mystery, the heart and the humour. This is one awesome show which deserves much better treatment form the network. We need shows like Life On Mars, please bring it back! Please at least rerun the whole series in the order it was suppossed to run. Putting it on hiatus did no help this show one little bit and you could have advertised it a bit more. You let a perfectly good show, writing, acting and directing go to waste! The cast was one of the best - they really clicked!
Shame on you - I say dump some of the reality shows and put back the good shows like Life on Mars!

First off once a show has been established in a certain time slot, do not change the day or the time.
This is the kiss of death especially if you have other shows you watch that are on opposite the new show that's been rescheduled the viewer will gravitate to the show they normally watch.
I now watch the pilot, if I find the show interesting I then record every episode of a new show without watching it.
And if and only if the network renews it will I commit the time to watch it!
Why waste my time on a show that won't make the cut.
That way you don't get wrapped up in any of the characters and it's easier to not watch the show.

They brought back the remaining episodes from the first season and called it the second season and only showed the remaining episodes before killing it off.
Another colossal waste of time!

Please keep it going! The ending left me wondering, well what next? Dying to find out. Certainly it was brilliantly cast with Harvey and Moll. Very fun to watch, one of the highlights of the week in network TV.
Please I am so confused as to how a show like this can be canceled and those stupid ridiculous shows like ... American Idol and Dancing with the Stars and have such good ratings. Please keep this show on for the sanity of those of us who don't watch that other crap!!!!!

I really loved this show and looked forward to it every week. I would ponder what happened in each show to figure out what was going on. It really made me think. I laughed at some of the quirkiness. I thought that the acting was terrific and enjoyed the evolving romance. I wondered how it would all play out. I was disappointed with the finale. It came out of no where and tied it all up pretty in a bow. There is not a lot on TV these days that holds my interest. Too bad that the show was canceled.
Wednesday nights are boring without LOM. Seems like any show
that doesn't feature T&A is doomed from the start. God forbid
the youth of today have to watch anything that makes them think.

Obviously ABC runs a business, but out here in the fields, it really looks like ABC dropped the ball on this show. Hiatus, switched day/time slot behind Lost, airing episodes out of order, throwing it under the bus to save Private Practice. This show had more than one season of potential.
ABC is already doing the right thing and pleasing fans by showing episodes of canceled shows over the summer, like Eli Stone, Dirty Sexy Money, and Pushing Daisies.
Please bring Life on Mars back for a summer rerun, maybe paired up with October Road, in anticipation for the next Applebaum, Nemec, Rosenberg series, Happy Town in the fall.
I bet you get some good numbers, enough to consider bringing back Life on Mars!

I hope that everyone will go to ABC contact page and keep writing them, and telling ABC to bring it back. I have not tuned into ABC since and have no intention to, unless they bring back LOM. It was a great show. ABC at least bring it back in re runs and see if the ratings might increase. It can't do worse than what you have on now. I hope that people will continue to write to ABC GIVE THEM HELL!!!!!
i love life on mars... i am just getting back in to TV after turning it off for so many years after having to put up with reality crap show after crap show.I am in Australia and it took 5 years for Big Brother to be cancelled, that was the happiest day i have ever lived when i got that news.. We need something with actors and a story. this and HOUSE are my 2 fav shows... please dont can it. SAVE LIFE ON MARS!!!!!!!!!!!.

It's really sad some of the best shows get cancelled. Last year it was STUDIO 60 that offered lively dialogue, very funny situations and plenty of romantic drama. But must not've been enough like the REALITY shows that seem to make it.
This year LIFE ON MARS was a light hearted breath of fresh crime drama / comedy that didn't make it. Haven't we seen enough CSIs and LAW AND ORDERS? LoM had a great first season, even if the finale was rushed, due to getting cancelled.
