Palin visited New York with her 14-year old. Her 18-year old, Bristol, was not at the baseball game which was the locale for Letterman's "joke." When he said that Palin's daughter got "knocked up" by A-Rod, a reasonable person would assume he was talking about the daughter that was there - in this case, the 14-year old. Letterman is losing it.

First that the overwhelming number of people who are outraged at Letterman's joke (obviously aimed at Bristol and mostly at A Rod) cannot spell or are able to use proper punctuation. This just reinforces the election polls which found that those who supported Palin were mostly uneducated, lower class white people with limited exposure to anything beyond their tiny worlds. Secondly, there are so many serious problems facing us today, the idea that this could bring about such intensive responses is pathetic. I saw the show with the AROD knockup comment. I assumed he was speacking of the palin daughter that was knocked up durring the campain. I guess he could have been clearer but this is a joke you are going to mess up the setup. The main point of the joke is her family is trialer trash fyi we have some knock up situation in my family so I live in a glass house on this subject dam you letterman.

I have enjoyed watching David Letterman over the years. I enjoy his humor and sarcasm along with the combined facial expressions. I don't believe it was the shows intent to make the 14 year old daughter the brunt of a bad joke, but that is what they did.
I know how I would feel if someone was to make such tasteless and humorless jokes about my children. I wonder how David would feel if his child was treated this way and was able to understand "the joke". I’m certain that if I made jokes of this type about someone’s daughter I would expect some form of repercussion and I'm sure it wouldn't be enjoyable to be called to task by a father or mother who cares. Sarah Palin must think why would someone make such statements about my children? What have they done? Teenage and un-wed pregnancies happen in all walks of life, regardless of political view, but why are we allowing this family the bear the scorn of the media? Where I come from people don't make crude jokes about other people’s wives or children, it's considered tasteless.

I am a person who believes in this country and it's values. We try to look out for each other as shown by 9/11 and Katrina, but this is just so far out there I can't imagine how we can defend it.

The joke was about Bristol Palin and she is not a child. Todd and Sarah are both sticking with their inaccurate interpretation of the joke regarding Bristol Palin. Countless posters on these boards are doing the same. It doesn't even make sense for Letterman to tell a joke about Willow. She resonates with a huge portion of the US, and that is why liberals have a rabid fear reaction.
She represents true morality (Not perfection, but openly facing the failures.), and that is why immoral people have such a vicious, hateful response.

Manners 101; You don't call a lady a slut. You never, under any circumstances joke about someone's daughter being raped.

I guess this situation doesn't apply to the liberal's civility definition.
