Things are starting to look bleak for your buddy Letterman here, Gay.

Palin is holding all the cards, and she's always had the reputation of being a junkyard dog when given the opportunity.
(Despite many East Coast media misconceptions otherwise).

Do your buddy a favor Gay.
Call him up, e-mail him.
Tell him to forget about getting Palin on the show to properly apologize.
She'll never do it.
Time for Dave to contact Palin and volunteer to fly to Anchorage (hey, it's summer, great time of year, he can get a little fishing in) and work in a battered women's shelter for a coupla days....minus the comedy and other flippant attitudes.
That's about the only peace offering I can think of that will get the snarling Palin off of his scent.

Otherwise his days may well be numbered as a Late Night Host, if for no other reason than his ratings are gonna take a major long-term dive, and a severe demographic shift, the longer this stretches out.

In choosing to believe that Letterman's joke was about Willow, despite his statement that it was about Bristol, Sarah Palin is declaring her opinion a fact and that she believed his joke but not his statement.

If you follow the line of reasoning, then a Palin daughter really did get "knocked up" at the baseball game and Sarah Palin really did go to Bloomingdales "to update her slutty look".

Promoting this falsehood is making an already bad situation even worse.

Here's what the estimable Vern Gay, bloghost, a man who has over 30 years experience with David Letterman, our bloghost who has innumerable interviews with him, had to write about the "Willow to Bristol" possibility:

Now normally I'd say "well, good enough for Vern, good enough for me".
But this is the same Verne Gay who initially downplayed this entire saga by questioning what all the fuss was about, cuz the joke was really about A-Rod..

Which is kinda shocking to say in a way, cuz, if that was true, and I was A-Rod, I'd be considering some kind of action as Letterman in effect painted a picture of him as a statutory rapist.
Now A-Rod's a lot of things that some consider seamy, but......a statutory rapist?

There's humor in that?

Palin apparently doesn't know how old Willow is, repeatedly citing her age a 14 when Willow turned 15 in January of 2009. Does she think a 14 year old will get more sympathy? Maybe she thinks the big lie she's telling about the joke being about Willow will be overlooked, if people think she is 14. Perhaps, Sarah Palin is just milking this for all it is worth. David Letterman certainly handed her a golden opportunity with that joke. She should be thanking him for extending her 15 minutes of fame.
