Tim Russert: One Year Later
Yes, it was exactly one year Saturday since the death of Tim Russert, and below, is "MTP's" tribute from yesterday.
What have we learned over the year since Russert's tragic and untimely death?
1.) He was irreplaceable.
2.) Which may explain why David Gregory still feels like a placeholder as opposed to a successor.
3.) The Sunday landscape has been beset by a tremendous flattening effect in his absence, with both "This Week" and "Face the Nation" now equals with the once-impregnable "MTP" and perhaps, soon, the leaders.
4.) Bob Schieffer is now Sunday's de facto Go To Guy.
5.) George Stephanopoulos will probably be the top-rated Sunday Morning Guy on the fifth anniversary of his death.
6.) (Had Russert lived, he almost certainly would have NOT tweeted.)
7.) Had Russert lived, Prez Obama would have probably made his first major media stop at "MTP" as opposed to "Tonight."

Just reading "Big Russ & Me." What a great tribute to his father and how it all reminds me of my own childhood--a different place, slightly different circumstances, but a diary of my own early years. Tim Russert penned it so well. I hope I will have been a conduit like he was to pass on my own father's way of living to my sons. We need men like him in news today--so sadly missing in these days--objective, open to dialogue, asking probing questions, not rude or overbearing. so sadly missed.
