Alec Baldwin: Maybe a Run for Office But...

A fine Alec Baldwin interview by Michael Fleming in the current Playboy; some of the outtakes were out a couple weeks ago (the business about "Today," TMZ, and so on.)
But the full interview closes with this interesting aside, which was all news to me:
PLAYBOY: Will you run for office?
BALDWIN: I’ll put it this way. The desire is there; that’s one component. The other component is opportunity. A law firm in a liberal Democratic bastion in Ohio state politics sent me a binder with a cover letter that read, “Mr. Baldwin, here’s who we represent, the kinds of cases we handle, our credentials in Ohio state politics. We want you to move to Ohio and run for governor. We will launch your career.”
PLAYBOY: Could you live in Ohio?
BALDWIN: I have sometimes thought I could move to New Jersey or Connecticut and run. I’d love to run against Joe Lieberman. I have no use for him. But it’s all fantasy. I’m a carry-me-out-in-a-box New Yorker. Here, anything can happen. Who thought Eliot Spitzer would go down the way he did? Senator Hillary Clinton left to serve as secretary of state. Two of the biggest forces gone. Maybe Andrew Cuomo will run for one of their old seats. How much longer will Chuck Schumer stay as senator? After 2013 Bloomberg will be gone. What happens then? Do I run for Congress on Long Island? What’s Tim Bishop going to do? He represents my district. People get sick, die. They’re offered lucrative deals and want to cash in and make money for their retirement. People misstep. Unfortunately, an opportunity for me may mean bad things for someone else. I don’t wish that.
PLAYBOY: How does all this factor into your career?
BALDWIN: I’m done in 2012. In March 2012 I’ll wake up and say, “What am I going to do now? Am I done?” I think I will be done. I may finish a play or something, but I’m retiring at the wrap party.

baldwin is one sorry dude. His life sucks and he knows it ! Running for office will seal his fate as one of the hated actors of all time. The guy is like the biggest Jerk in Hollywood. He needs to move out of the country like he promised he would do. The smartest thing his wife ever did was to leave that jerk and take he daughter away from that insane moron. Good for you Kim I was happy when you wised up to just how big a jerk baldwin is.

I don't know enough about him to like or dislike him personally or politically so I wouldn't prejudge him. And while he has done a number of bad films, he's done some great ones as well. I think many times he's a great actor.

To know Alec Baldwin is to know a passionate guy who loves his country and politics. He has been blessed with many opportunities and comes from a wonderful Long Island family -- his Dad was revered and his mother an inspiration to cancer survivors all over. Alec has a huge, generous heart and those who cast illogical negatives against him know not the man nor his goodness. He is feared because if he were to run, he would win on Long Island and the establishment -- which could not control him -- would be truly challenged. Oh yeah, and Baldwin is capable of doing good things in elected office. He knows Capitol Hill (going back to his college days) and would be an asset to common sense representation in the Congress.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if he ran against the loud-mouthed, windbag, self promoter, Pete King? Alec grew up in that congressional district and could really blow King out of the water ...
Fear not, friends.
Lets hope he chooses Not to run. Actors in films can be good,
but if we keep church and state seperate, we should do the same
with Hollywood. Yes, with the exception of Regan.

he'd win. i certainly would consider offering my support, it is of great importance to Nyer's that their representives listen to the people.
we are about to clean house, as the stalemate that blocked up
our senate will not go unrewarded in the upcomming elections.
