THE BPL

Best Printable Line comes with the caveat of the quote being able to be reprinted for people of all ages. If not for this rule, Ari Gold would win every week. If not for this rule, I'd have been fired for dropping too many curses and lewd material in this blog.

The Big Knish

The Big Knish is awarded at the end of each season to the character the most BPLs. Here's the history so far:

Season 4: Ari Gold
Season 3.5: Drama, E
Season 3: Ari Gold, Turtle
Season 2: Johnny Drama
Season 1: Johnny Drama**

** Entourage the blog began midway through Season 2, but we went back and did the research from Season 1. Not surprisingly, Drama won that season's Big Knish, too.

Our savior Ari Gold

ari-and-lloyd.jpg

By Mark La Monica

He makes things happen. Some bad, some good, all hilarious.

He says a lot of things. Some bad, some good, all hilarious.

He shows emotion. Some bad, some good, all hilarious.

He's Ari Gold, our Sunday night savior.

When Season 3 began in the summer of 2006, we were promised the opportunity to see the softer side of Ari Gold. The folks at Entourage made good on that promise.

Thus far in Season 4, those same folks have combined all the elements of Ari Gold and created one of the best and most memorable characters on television in the past 20 years. He's as lecherous and slimy as he's always been (sandbagging Heath Ledger's desire to do "Lost in the Clouds" so Vince could get it by lying to his agent Josh Weinstein). He also has a soft spot now, one that makes him even more appealing to everyone (telling his wife he'll fix everything when their son can't get into private school).

And that brings us to this week's episode. It was Ari Gold at his bi-emotional best.

He was slimy -- getting E and Vince to come into his office without telling them Billy Walsh was there; threatening his substitute assistant; and flat-out lying to the guy who just dumped Lloyd.

He was endearing -- getting Walsh to apologize to E and Vince so they can work together again; going to Lloyd's house to attempt consolation; and making things right between Lloyd and Tom.

Of course, it's all done in the name of Ari Gold. He wants to make deals. That's what an agent does. He needs Lloyd back because he can't do his job without him, which means he can't make as many deals, which means he can't make as much money.

It's pure selfishness . . . and we love it.

Ari Gold is the dude on our left shoulders always encouraging us to do and say the wrong thing. For the past four summers, we love nothing more than to agree with our left shoulders on Sunday nights. Now, Ari is hanging out -- occasionally -- on our right shoulders, too, trying to get us not to listen to the left.

Occassionally.

After all, he's Ari Gold. He wants everything. And we're fine with that.

can someone just tell me the song that was played during the end credits for this week just email me knicks04@hotmail.com

The smirk on his face when he told Lloyd to take down the dartboard was priceless. He knew it was something else he could hang over Lloyd's head. Excellent.

Question for the Blogger: What is Ari Gold's (not Jeremy Piven, but as a fictional agent) income?

Did anyone notice the up-the-skirt shot in the shoe store? No panties!!!.. nice.. all women should sport this look.

Josh G,

an interesting question. my guess is he pulls in a few million a year.

however, since he's half-owner of the agency and a shrewd businessman, he might only pay himself a few bucks a year in actual salary to avoid tax issues.

but either way, he's pulling in more in one year than you and i will ever make combined in our lifetimes.

This was an AWESOME episode. I loved the return of the mailroom kid that Ari fired. What a nice touch by the writers!

This was my least favorite episode of the season so far. Not much going on. On a side note, I did finally receive my Medellin shirt in the mail that I ordered. www.apparelparade.com

It was a very good episode-it will be interesting to see if Vincent and Eric remain close friends

Excellent insight into Ari's character!

I agree, this was a great episode.

I couldn't make out the name on the long sleeve black shirt that Drama was wearing. Did anyone notice?
The design was a skull print and the name was something like -
Almadora Smith???????

Agents, depending on whether or not they are full service, and Ari seems to be, charge between five and 10 percent of gross contract value. It sometimes varies depending on the deal- it may be one thing for movies, another for tv, a third for print ads, a fourth for tv ads, something else for personal appearance bookings, something else for sale of name (it's my perfume/clothing line, etc.- yeah right, you just sold your name to Channel or someone else), and more. The fee goes to the agency, not the agent, and the agent has either a percentage of profit deal as a partner in the firm, or gets a fixed salary plus bonus (based upon billables).

Did no one else notice the vagina shot during the pan around of the foot locker in this week's episode?

Yo, so i just caught this weeks' episode (thanks to time shift tv). But i had to rewatch the scene change from E and Vince leaving dana Gordon's office, to Ari walking into the Finish Line, AND DAMMIT I swear there is a sweet shot of some broad trying on shoes with no panties on. the only drawback is she's totally a butterhead extra - but still - did anyone catch that?!

Good point Chris I wonder if Vince and E will stay close also.

Did anyone notice when Billy left Dana's office his red sports car was parked in a handicapped spot, haha he is such a dick.

A funny bit I just noticed upon watching the episode last night was when Walsh says he can't push the meeting back because he has to, "be at the track at 4:15." 4:15 is when the California tracks open, except it is Eastern time. Not sure if this is an error on the writers part, but it doesn't make sense otherwise.

Another great episode in what is turning out to be the most polished season yet.

What is the music track at the end of episode 4/6?

Yeah, the girl gone commando in Foot Locker was a treat! Thank God for Tivo!
