The international love affair, whether consummated for three hours on a French beach or not at all, is as time-honored and respected by Americans nearly as much as the "What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" mantra.
If "International Love Affair" fit on a T-shirt, it would be right up there in the pantheon of Americana with apple pie, baseball, Betsy Ross and "These Colors Don't Run."
This would help explain why we loved the Drama storyline in the Season 4 finale.
Sure, it was hilarious that the French love Drama for what we can only imagine is his stellar campaign as Tarvold in "Viking Quest." (Quick question: Is it just me, or do other people occasionally check the Sci-Fi Channel on the off-chance it'll somehow be on TV?) And Billy Walsh comparing Drama to Jerry Lewis was pure bliss.
But what really stuck out was Drama's quest to meet a French woman for some "Last Tango in Paris." If you've seen that movie, it was a great reference. If you haven't, please add it to your Netflix list, or go to your local Blockbuster and rent it. (Marlon Brando at his pre-Godfather finest.)
When we men travel to places that require a stamped passport, we dream of meeting a local girl and frolicking across the country with her. It's a basic male fantasy. I can't speak for the American ladies, but I'm guessing more women than you think feel the same way when they travel to distant lands.
Falling in love in a different language is tres bon! But why?
There's the limited time in town factor that intensifies the relationship. There's that "Come home with me, please" notion that intensfies the relationship. There's that "We met in Florence, she doesn't speak English, I don't speak Italian, and somehow we wound up at the Leaning Tower of Pisa one morning and kissing in the rain back in Florence that night" factor that makes changing your flight home three times worth all the extra money.
So, when Drama lost touch with Jacqueline, his French paramour, because of a typical Drama meltdown, we could identify with him pretty easily. He was living the American Dream. And when he reconnected with her toward the end of the show and put on a show at beach, the American Dream was complete.
"Le victory!"

What is this about? Drama is victorious and Vince is in the toilet? Something is just not right with the Universe.
Was the season finale filmed in a different way then in the past? It seemed more like movie film last night.
hey I think I figured out some stuff about Queens Boulevard and Billy Walsh.. who he might be based off of- read it on my blog (I put it as my URL)
