Toile tales
Anyone who loves traditional decor goes for toiles.
Rekindle your fond memories of the Big Easy with a French toile based on original sketches by Bryan Batt and Tom Cianfichi, owners of the home and gift boutique Hazelnut New Orleans. Although the toiles were introduced four years ago when the shop opened, the Katrina tragedy disaster has invigorated sales.
Toiles typically depict bucolic scenes and women in flowing dresses, but this one shows New Orleans scenes such as the St. Charles streetcar, the Vieux Carre and St. Louis Cathedral. It is available in five color combinations: the traditional magnolia (ecru/black), café au lait (tan/chocolate brown), claret (ecru/red), delphine (ecru/blue), and palmetto (ecru/green).
The products, made of a cotton and linen blend, range from throw pillows ($120 each) and photo frames ($45 each) to shower curtains ($180) and shams ($68) with duvet cover ($212). -C.V.S.
