Holiday Gifts 2007: A seed of a gift idea
For the nature lover in your life (especially one who lives in parts of the country where it's cold and wintry for many months of the year): send them a windowsill garden that keeps giving the entire year.
From Red Envelope, it's called Year of Seeds and includes 12 colorful pots, each of which correspond with a different type of seed. All they have to do is put the included soil pellets and seeds into the pots add water, and watch the plants come to life, a month at a time.
The seeds include petunias, marigolds, pansies, lobelia, alyssum, zinnias, impatiens, baby's breath, dianthus, cosmos, poppies and sweet peas. The cheery colored earthenware pots are as pretty as the blooms.
It's $70, but consider that it's like giving a $6 gift each month for the whole year. What a bargain.
