Holiday Gifts 2007: Tie one on
From the "Books on random subject matter" category comes this new gem: Laces: 100s of ways to pimp your kicks ( Sterling Books, $14.95).
It's written by Ian Fieggen, a guy who made shoelace tying his hobby and promises to be the first comprehensive book on the subject. The intro is filled with fun facts (Did ya know: There are more then two trillion ways to run a shoelace through the average shoe? This is supported by some kind of math equation) and then 50 lacing styles (like double, woven, hexagram, starburst, spiderweb) and knotting methods with full directions on how to accomplish them.
The book cover looks like a shoe, with a dozen eyelet holes to practice on. It comes with five different types of laces in different colors.
It has been a hit with both my 5 year old, who is learning how to tie his shoes, and my 8 year old, who has fun trying out the different styles.
