Mom's day dilemma

What oh what to buy mom for Mother's Day, rapidly arriving on May 11?

My mother, who comes from a long line of bargain hunters, has never been an extravagant sort. "Get me a card," she says when I ask her what she would like as a gift.

But I so rarely get to see my mother -- she lives in Illinois -- that I Iike to take every opportunity to buy her something nice. She's not a jewelry person, so that's out. Clothes are difficult but the recent addition of Kohl's and Coldwater Creek to South Florida helps enormously -- I can buy items there or online and she can return them in Illinois if need be.

I'll be shopping this weekend and looking online for inspiration. Coldwater Creek looks like a prime possibility. Coldwater Creek has purses, jewelry, clothes and home items at 50 to 70 percent off in its outlet online. See
